as stated no, a K1 and a K3 are both visas. You can't just "change" your visa by a change in circumstance.. the woman is an idiot. Its like saying I arrive on a B2 (visitor) visa and start school suddenly i'm an L1 visa... nooooo..

** moved from "Adjustment of Status (Green Card) from Family Based Visas" to " Working & Traveling During US Immigration" as this is relating to an EAD qn **

the SSN staff know nothing about the ins and outs of immigration. A k-1 STAYS a k-1. Once you are married and you apply for your AOS, it extends your status during processing. It doesn't change the visa type, and even if it did, you still show the same items to apply for an SSN.

Oh, boy! I had the same problems with SSA!!! :bonk: Those people need training, ASAP! We had to argue with 4 SS officers before an African-American officer came in (bless his heart!) and set things straight...

So...agreeing with everyone above... K1 does not become K3, but you'll have a hard time explaining that to all the under-trained (is that even a word? ) officers :bonk:

Which dumb@ss SSA office told you this? Where trying to apply for an SSN as a K-1, and they turned you away because you are married?
