You find the passport or replace it. If necessary, the interview can be rescheduled.

They need a passport to attach his visa to. I can't imagine his school in Cyprus would be able to give him any sort of travel document that would be accepted by the consulate.

My thoughts - I would contact the nearest Nigerian embassy about a replacement passport immediately. Pay whatever is necessary to have it rushed. Get a written statement from the embassy that the replacement passport has been ordered.

Contact the consulate and ask if he can still attend the interview without his passport. Obviously, they can't issue a visa without a passport, but they may be able to go ahead with the interview. In the end, they'll issue a 221(g) notice for the passport, which will buy him some time to get the replacement passport. If they won't conduct the interview without a passport then try to get the interview rescheduled.

12/15/2009 - K1 Visa Interview - APPROVED!

12/29/2009 - Married in Oakland, CA!

08/18/2010 - AOS Interview - APPROVED!

05/01/2013 - Removal of Conditions - APPROVED!

Public Notice:Loss of Passports

This is to inform holders of Nigerian Passports of a new requirement for payment of a non-refundable fee for lost passports at the Embassy of Nigeria in Washington D.C. and the Consulates General in New York and Atlanta.

All applications for lost passport are sent to the Nigerian Immigration Headquarters in Abuja for approval. Lost passports can ONLY be replaced when the necessary approval is received from Abuja. Once the approval is obtained, a new passport will be issued after the payment of $385.00 in money order. To apply for a lost passport, fill out the lost passport form and new passport form and mail to the Embassy of Nigeria, in Washington, DC.

This is from the US site but I am sure the process is about the same there . However I doubt you will get a replacement in time so you will be looking at rescheduling the interview.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

This was my thought exactly after thinking it over...that we'd be able to still attend the interview, but just be delayed getting the visa due to this situation. I'm still sickened over it.

It's certainly worth asking but generally the passport is used as ID to get into the Consulate for the interview.

Just wanted to show support. If it's any consolation FH was told that he can show his resident permit if we haven't received his replacement passport by interview time. He can't get the visa without it but he can still go through with the interview. We were happy to hear that. I'm still wishing he didn't have to go back to Nigeria just for his passport though. :( were you able to get around that?

I am so sorry this is happening to you. I would ask Marcel to go, in person, first thing Monday to the Nigerian embassy in Cyprus and explain the situation and see if he can get a replacement passport expedited. All you can do is try!

Best wishes!

August 23, 2010 - I-129 F package sent via USPS priority mail with delivery confirmation.

August 30, 2010 - Per Department of Homeland Security (DHS) e-mail, petition received and routed to California Service Center for processing. Check cashed. I-797C Notice of Action by mail (NOA 1) - Received date 08/25/2010. Notice date 08/27/2010.

After 150 days of imposed anxious patience...

January 24, 2011 - Per USCIS website, petition approved and notice mailed.

January 31, 2011 - Approval receipt notice (NOA 2) received by mail. Called NVC, given Santo Domingo case number, and informed that petition was sent same day to consulate.

Called Visa Specialist at the Department of State every day for a case update. Informed of interview date on February, 16 2011. Informed that packet was mailed to fiance on February, 15 2011.

February 21, 2011 - Fiance has not yet received packet. Called 1-877-804-5402 (Visa Information Center of the United States Embassy) to request a duplicate packet in person pick-up at the US consulate in Santo Domingo. Packet can be picked-up by fiance on 02/28.

March 1, 2011 - Medical exam completed at Consultorios de Visa in Santo Domingo.

UPDATE:

Apparently, when Marcel applied for his E-Passport way back when, it was that he had lost his initial (original)passport. ( I didn't know he had lost it) When he had spoken with his father back in Nigeria, today, his mother had gotten on the phone and told him at one point she had found his lost passport, but never thought to tell Marcel since he had his new one. They checked the expiration date which is 2012 on his old one. Maybe this one can be used to some capacity in getting a new one again. I don't know. They are mailing it to me since things haven't arrive to Cyprus in the past.

I'm not sure if you followed that at all. I may not be explaining it properly.

Thank you for the encouraging words and advice. I am most positive the nearest Nigerian Embassy is in Turkey.

Generally the lost passport is canceled when you report it missing and replace it... because a lost passport can be used by someone else so they mark it lost and cancel it so it cant be used and if tried to be used would be taken and destroyed etc etc etc.
