So, my husband was scheduled a while back for an interview on Monday morning, November 8. We were eating dinner tonight, so he didn't answer his cell phone when it rang. After dinner, he checked his voice mail, and it was a message saying that his interview has been cancelled and he'll receive a new interview letter within the next 30 to 90 days! No explanation of why, or anything. Just that it's been cancelled. We've been waiting for this, and now just a few days before, they tell us he has to wait a few more months?

Urgh! That really sucks. I hope you get some answers on why it was canceled and that the new date comes in very soon. I feel your frustration and sympathize.

Good luck,

Kim

Ah, that sucks. Hopefully he will get a new appointment scheduled soon. It could be that the person who was to interview him is sick or not available and they have to add him in to someone else's schedule. Try calling the Information number the end of each week and see if they have a new date listed. If you don't have anything in 3 weeks, then make an infopass appointment to see if you can get something moving. I suspect that they would probably prioritize appointments that were scheduled and then cancelled so do expect you will hear something sooner than the given time frame. Good luck.

I have actually read several cases on VJ, where people get the message that their interview has been canceled but they ignore it and go anyway, they got interviewed! If I was in your position I would just have your hubby go in anyway and not say anything, as if he never got that phone call. Even if they don't interview him, what will he lose? Since the interview is at the local office, maybe he can get a new date while there, or at least find out the reason why it was canceled. Good luck!

Good advice ELW... I have not been canceled yet but while reading that story, I was thinking... OMG, I hope this will not happen to me. It would drive me up the walls.

I only can imagine how Venusfire must have felt. Thanks for posting.

You DID make sure the call was legit? Yo DO have the name and phone number of the caller? You DID call back to confirm, right?

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

They did that to me at GC stage. I had Left Yorkshire to travel to London Embassy the day before so I didn't get the cancellation letter in time.

Inside the Embassy, the interviewing officer said "You don't have an interview here today. How did you get in here ? How did you get past the security guards ? "

I came out with the GC approved and got the Visa and my passport the next day.

It's just part of the USCIS rich pageant of life. I am waiting on my ceremony letter so you know the let down feeling every day as you trudge back from the mailbox. We can either get used to it or get clinical depression. We have that choice and you have that to look forward to after the interview unless you get the ceremony and chip implant the same day.

Wondering about this myself, where did they get your phone number? Only place on the N-400 they ask for a phone number is for the preparer of the application, but if you prepared it yourself, that entire section remains blank. Did you get a confirming letter for the cancellation?

If not, I would show up for your interview this coming Monday morning. And on a cell phone to boot? Sometimes that doesn't work, wife was asking me about a voice message I sent her and why, she got it three days later!!

I got an email from my broker on Friday saying they acknowledged receiving a same day cash transfer from me. They actually received it 10 days before that and I went online and spent it the same day !

Yes turning up for the interview sounds good - they can only say go away.

Hi everyone.

Well, I posted the original post as soon as he listened to his voice mail - we were just stunned, and not thinking. Well, a little later (when we could focus more) we listened to the message again. Yeah, it's REALLY strange. No name was given, no return number (and it was one of those calls that came in with no name and no number on the caller ID), etc. VERY suspicious. The only thing that seemed legit about it was that no one else knows he has his interview scheduled for Monday morning. He didn't want to tell anyone about it until after it happens, so not even family or friends know. We were wondering how someone would know his cell phone number AND the date of the interview. He did give his cell phone number for text message updates, so USCIS would have that number.

Anyway, he had already decided he would go. Even if he received a letter of cancellation in the mail, he would go. We figured it would be better than not going. Even though it means missing work. Hearing what everyone else has to say just confirms it. Yeah, maybe someone got sick or something - no way to know. And the thing is, we weren't even given enough time to schedule an Infopass appointment. I told him that we might as well go to the appointment because it would be 'faster' than Infopass. The worst case scenario is that we 'wasted' time finding out why his interview is delayed. Best case scenario, he gets to interview - either because it was never actually cancelled, or because they have some opening/can squeeze him in. Like he said, once we're there, he doesn't care if we have to sit there all day, if they can fit him in somehow!

Thanks everyone - we'll report back tomorrow.

Good strategy.

Nothing to lose and something to gain. A good risk/reward on offer.

Looking fwd to the update while I wait for the mailman

Hmmn, that does sound odd. I think you are right to go anyway. Nothing ventured, nothing gained and all that.

Good luck in the morning. Can't wait to read how things go and hope congratulations are in order.

Thank you to all the well-wishers.

Unfortunately, after traveling the whole way into Philadelphia, paying for parking, etc. he was told they couldn't interview him because his file is somewhere else (didn't say where). They were nice about it, but it's still really frustrating. We're both out of a day's pay, gas money, parking, etc. Now we just wait to find out when he's been rescheduled to interview.

Oh well - at least the journey was quick and easy at the beginning - the visa was the fastest and easiest part. Seems like we've been downhill since then, so it's a good thing this is the final chapter!

Venusfire,

Sorry it didn't work out, that sucks. At least you know for sure that the call was real, still strange though.

It is frustrating, but then so much of this process is. I hope you and DH got to at least spend some time together and you made the most of it.

Good luck with getting a new appointment date. We here all feel and understand your pain.

Keep smiling, toady is a new day.

Commiserations

it was worth the try.

Now we sit and wait - The mail has just been and I don't have my birthday card from my daughter or the ceremony letter.

But I do have chocolate !

Our mission now is to put the whole thing to the back of our minds and do something useful - a watched kettle never boils.
