choir001 and Alan the Red,

Thank you so much. For me, it doesn't help to know that others are also miserable/irritated/frustrated/etc. Somehow, it actually helps to hear others agree that it sucks, though. Validates my feelings, I guess.

It is all very strange. I can't believe the woman who called didn't give ANY identifying information. We seriously thought it was likely a prank until he got turned away today. I was still questioning the whole thing until he got his cancellation letter this afternoon. At least now we have proof that it was cancelled.

My husband and I got to spend the entire day together since we both took off work. That was a good thing about the day. I also got caught up in one of my classes, which helps.

I'd never heard anyone say "commiserations" before to someone - I like it! Chocolate - good idea. One of the best medicines ever (especially since I don't drink)

Well, I hope you both (and everyone else who is waiting) get through the process quickly.

I actually don't get to think about this much between work, school, and my kids. But today was different. If I really think about it, I don't know why I care so much anyway. He has his 10 year card, and we're not planning to leave the country anytime soon (his passport expired, and we decided not to renew because he should have his new US passport soon, we hope). Elections are over for now. It's not like citizenship would change anything right now. Waiting a few more months really doesn't matter in the long run in our situation. But still… something about being so close and having it thrown into the unknown. And possibly only because someone messed up and forgot to mail his file… (seems like it from what we've been told).

Oh well. I'm just going to put my brain back on work/school/family mode for now. At least until the second interview letter arrives….

Good luck to all!

Glad you liked the new word.

Another useful expression is: 'I feel like writing bum on the wall'

As you say - no rush - so enjoy the freedom from jury duty a bit longer - oh sorry it's supposed to be an advantage.

Universal health care - now that would be an advantage. 'Write it on a pound note' as we say in the Sceptred Isle.

Thank you to all the well-wishers.

Unfortunately, after traveling the whole way into Philadelphia, paying for parking, etc. he was told they couldn't interview him because his file is somewhere else (didn't say where). They were nice about it, but it's still really frustrating. We're both out of a day's pay, gas money, parking, etc. Now we just wait to find out when he's been rescheduled to interview.

Oh well - at least the journey was quick and easy at the beginning - the visa was the fastest and easiest part. Seems like we've been downhill since then, so it's a good thing this is the final chapter!

Could be what happened to us, wifes' file was misplaced, sounds like said its somewhere else because they don't know where its at. When I first looked at the N-400, said a nasty word, same old evidence again, like a combined AOS and I-751, with the required evidence, was about another inch of documentation they already had. Then they keep on changing the service centers, we were at Nebraska, then California, and I see they have these so called lock boxes now whatever in the hell that is. But that application has to join up with your old file where the whole ball of wax is transferred to your field office. Wife saw that, a stack of our papers over 3 inches thick! Have no idea where that file goes after your oath ceremony. But from looking at the application in case someone loses your certificate, like the DOS wanting to see the original copy, you have to send a copy of your certificate to get a replacement.

Does this mean your file is destroyed? Understand the SS is keeping track of your status now, didn't want to do that under Bush, but Obama got them to do it by giving them an extra hundred million bucks. Should have let the IRS do it, they keep track of every penny you earn and spend.
