I got married to an american citizen wife 2 years ago..After the one year of marriage, she turned out to be a different woman due to involvement of her two kid's father in the marriage who is also a former criminal and she brought him to our house claiming that he would live with us cuz she didnt want to share the kids with him..as threats, nastyness started,i left her and offered divorce but as the guy left and she was alone with the kids and the bills, she convinced me to keep the marriage ,we filed at the end of one year and she pulled out of marriage after i received the fingerprint notification... Ive seen alotta cruelty but im feeling extremely sorry for not calling the police at the time of the abuse..I went to psycho teraphy for 5 months and right now getting another doctor report as i also have some other joint residence documents such as joint tax returns.utility bills, etc..The question is that im having hardtime with trusting the lawyers as some of them say that kind of application filed by men looks suspicious and other say that the approval chance depend on my proofs, statements and how the case is built..Is there any man who got this approved??

I remember a man on here who got approved for VAWA, but he had multiple police reports. Without a record of the abuse, it will be difficult for anyone, let alone a man, sorry.

The last lawyer i went to said that police report is very important but it doesnt mean that it cant be approved without one. Your statements and the doctors report would improve my chance he said but taking my chance will be too costly thats the problem..I dont know who to listen.

You haven't made it clear where you are in the process...

How did you enter the US?

Do you already have a conditional Green Card?

Are you currently filing Removal of Conditions or Adjustment of Status?

This all makes a difference in the answers you'll get.

I entered the country with an F1 visa in 2000 to attended a state college and i graduated in 2005 thats a different issue..I got married in summer 2008 and applied to for GC in summer 2009. I received the fingerprint notification but one month after i filed but i didnt make it to the fingerprint since my wife decided to pull out of marriage claiming that my home country was on terror list so we cant pass interview. lol. Actually the lawyer she found made this excuse to divorce us..lol..My own immigration lawyer withdrew my application and received the denial letter 3 months later..Divorced was finalized last november and now im investigating if USCIS would listen to my own sense making statements and doctor reports if i file for battered spouse..

moved from General Immigration Discussion to this forum as the circumstances seem to fit better here

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Here is a boat load of VAWA petitions that went to appeals at the AAO .. read through them and then you will have a better idea of what you are proposing will be a case that can withstand the scrutiny you will come under if you file this type of application.

First click on the year, then the months are broken down and you can read the appeals decisions..
