How much English is required for the visa?

My fiancee speaks primarily Spanish. I speak Spanish myself and we communicate very well.

What is her level of English she will need. She has a desire to learn English but I can teach her when she is here, as this is what I do in my volunteer job here in the United States.

I love this girl. I am buying English classes for her for this but am going to send in my i-129 next week and she is still working out the basics. I know the classes she is taking are intensive enough for her to pick up on some of it, but how well does she need to speak it? Are there guidelines or a test? She will be able to tell them about her love for me, but may have trouble talking about the past in English, like how we first met.

If you are a husband or wife who is or was the alien fiancee, then it would be nice to hear your story. Is there a test for this? There is so little information considering that it can cost you over a thousand dollars just to have to start it all over again.

There are language requirements for citizenship, but none for immigration. I have read other posts on here of people who spoke no English at all. At least by the interview your fiancee will know some, hopefully enough to help her feel confident :-) I just read a post on here the other day about someone who accompanied their fiancee to the interview and translated most of it :-) You might need to provide an interpreter for the interview, but you can think about that when the time comes. Hopefully someone with personal experience can reply to reassure you some more, especially someone who has been through the Bolivian Embassy.

Yes , They have translators there , she can just ask for translator (for free) lol.

But tell her to tell the CO that you both speak spanish so he wont doubt the relationship

Better if the bene does speak and understand English but not required. My first K1 was denied and i believe her having to use a interpreter and loss of info and her feelings during the translation "may" have had something to do with her denial.

The only English test that is given during the immigration journey is at the interview for naturalization. And even that test is a joke. Super easy. So, she will have about 5 years or so to prepare for that test! It would be nice to have her start the English classes though, if you can afford to pay for them, then she can have a headstart on learning the language.

If neither of you speak a common languge they may ask as to how you have a realtionship, but there is NO requirement to speak any language. Alla does interpretations for USCIS for AOS interviews and other purposes, so even after arrival inthe US there is no requirement to speak English

Since you two speak a common language, include proof of that communication in Spanish at the interview. It comes up under the relationship bonafide section - you'll have to show that you can communicate with each other. Shouldn't be a problem, just a little extra work when the interview comes around.

All our MSN messenger logs are in Spanish and include me trying to teach her English.

I will say may Spanish was terrible when we first met. Being around her made me have to work on it and get better.

I have photos of us together kissing in La Paz. We never met through a dating service. She was best friends with my first Bolivian girlfriend. Things didn't work out with the first girl and Anahi was there for me. She is more like a best friend than a girlfriend. Things came slow so there was no sparking fire, but there is a level of comfort and the love I have for her is growing more and more. I would rather spend the rest of my life with my best friend rather than someone who wastes all of our energy in a quick burst of passion like the first girl.

I am actually a bit concerned we may seem too genuine. We have all the right things, photos and logs. This and the genuine love for each other that is stronger than even the relationship itself.

The only other threat to us is she applied for a visitor visa and we stated we were friends. We were thinking about separating to protect ourselves in case things go wrong. I wanted her to come here to see if she liked it, and she liked who I am, here where the stress is a bit more extreme. I am trying not to push her into the marriage. I feel confident that this is where we will end up, but I am trying to let her know that I am giving her choices and freedoms that are not common among the men of La Paz. She got denied for this visitor visa. The shock to us made me go into a state where a few days where I questioned whether it is all worth it. I came out the other side remembering our friendship. We are now closer than before and have survived when most of my prior relationships have failed. It took the strong friendship to pull us through. She likes that I provide her the freedom and respect she needs to be happy.

As others have said, there are not English requirements and the interview will be in Spanish. It sounds like you two can communicate well so that will be a plus.

My wife barely spoke English when we first met, but now her English is quite good and she could probably have the interview conducted in English. Make sure that you always are thinking of possible evidence. Things like bus tickets showing that you travel together, restaurant receipts, gift receipts, letters, chat/phone logs, dozens or hundreds of pictures with dates, boarding passes, etc. Since we are married, my wife is also authorized on all of my credit cards and we have a joint bank account in Ecuador.

As others have already said: no English required. Also, the COs speak the local language. I had the whole interview in Italian, and they didn't even ask me how we communicate.

In any case, if you show them your chat logs in Spanish, she will be fine.
