There are no bigger strongholds of the Left than the Major cites of our nation.

When we look in 2010 at the patterns of who they choose to live with we might be surprised (some of us anyway)

Revealed: The maps that show the racial breakdown of America’s biggest cities

America is known as the Great Melting Pot.

But a closer look at census data shows we're a lot closer to a dinner plate with the peas here, carrots here, potatoes here, and steak over there. In other words, a very high level of racial segregation.

This cool series of maps was produced by Eric Fischer, based on a map of Chicago from Bill Rankin's Radical Cartography.

Red represents white people, blue is black, green is Asian, and orange is Hispanic, and each dot is 25 people.

I am of South Asian heritage and live in a townhome that sits in a 4-unit structure. The other 3 units are inhabited by people of Colombian, Venezuelan and Filipino heritage. The unit across mine is also 4-units and has 2 Caucasian families, 1 Chinese family and a South Asian family.

It's a shame they mapped NYC, with its extreme income disparities. Central Jersey would have been much more interesting.

I'm betting you have the ultimate neighborhood BBQs with that variety of menu.

I think at issue is sort of a complicated mix between race and class. Where people live in a city is largely determined by where they can afford to live. However what economic class people generally end up in is much more of a complicated issue. While some people do get out of the lower economic class they started in, the highest probability is that they will stay in the class of their parents or pretty close to it. If the parents are wealthy, its likely the children will be too (access to the best schools, opportunities that come along with it) If the parents are poor, then its pretty likely the children will stay in a similar economic class.

Immigrant communities often start at the bottom, especially if they were part of a large migration of skilled and unskilled labor (In this case Hispanics). Immigrant communities that are primary made up of skilled labor will likely start much higher (Which is true for Asians). Because of that, it often takes several generations for that to change. Even though black in this country have been here much longer, they have been economically suppressed up until the 1960's and we are only a generation or so past that.

BUt there are plenty of poor whites too, in fact an even greater number.... why don't they take advantage of the great real estate deals and move in closer to the city they work in?

Poor whites? No... It can't be! All whites are rich and evil and keep the minorities down! Down with them!!!!

Ugh.

It's funny how many people seem to forget that there are a lot more poor whites in the US than any other "race."

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

We have an oppressive HOA. Arranging an outdoor BBQ is worse than filing a I-129F petition. It's an insurance thing

how's that "freedom" working out for you? :hehe:

"Patchwork quilt" , that suggests we are all connected, at least at the seams.

That has good imagery.

My melting pot example - was at a Hispanic indoor flea market (somewhere in Texas) -

and there was a Korean seller there - selling Chinese shirts similar to the famous 'George Bush Version'.

He had 3 hispanic workers covering the floor, I was talking to them about where they got their gear, in Spanish.

Finally, I asked the seller about these shirts, in English - he didn't understand me. I switched to Mandarin, and he laughed at me - then finally, I switched to Spanish, and we had a long conversation.

The shirts were made in Vietnam ;)

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
