when I was in the US last November, I had to pick up my checked luggage at the POE (Detroit, in your case) and check it in again...After that, I claimed my luggage at the final destination. Have a safe flight!

Hi

Commonly, when you cross the border of a country you will need to check your luggages.

You will left it in Manila, and probably you need to pick it up in Japan, and finally in Detroit, after Detroit the airlane will do that for you till your final airport in USA.

Hmm, in November I had a layover in Paris, but I did not re-check my luggage there...Now I am wondering if that was the case because both Romania and France are part of the European Union :innocent::unsure: . Hope some more experienced fellow VJs can answer to your post pookie123  ...

you will get your bags in Detroit, you will have to clear the customs once the customs is cleared, they will guide you where you can drop your bag and then collect them back in St.Louis.

Last time I flew there was no checking agent at the drop of point, we just had to drop it on the conveyor and they took care of it, I had done POE in Newark, but the process should be similar at all airport.

I have flown your exact route back to the States (Manila - Nagoya - Detroit) several times. Each time I checked my bags in Manila but did not touch them until the POE (Detroit). At the POE, you pick them up after clearing Immigration. Go through customs. Re-check. Move to your next flight. Then you will not see them again until your final destination.

Safe travels.

You will need to claim your bags at the point of entry to the USA and recheck them. Last month when I flew from Casablanca home the girl insisted, even after I told her that she was incorrect, that I would not get my bags until my final destination. My POE was Washington DC and final destinataion was Dallas. It was a good thing I did not listen to her and relied on what I knew from past experience. If you are told the same don't listen and when you get to Detroit make sure you look for your bags. Best of luck and safe travels!!!

Harsh_77 is absolutely correct... ]

pookie123 will likely not see her bags in St. Louis. Instead, she will see them in Marion, her final destination.

I think so too.

She will pick up her luggage at the POE (Detroit) & then re-check them and then claim them at her final destination (Marion). She will not see her luggage at St. Louis.

Pookie123, as it never hurts to ask, at the check-in counter in Manila (& Detroit), ask them how is your luggage being tagged.
