we will leave 15% if the server is good. we required to be asked once if everything is ok and makes sure we have refils on beverages. thats it. if they dont do these two little things then NO tip.

always on the charge card reciet where they ask for tip i make sure if i leave the tip on the table i write ---0--- in that space. im always afraid that after i leave they will add their own tip in that space.

I remember being at lunch with my sister and I had a completely idiotic server. I asked for a clubhouse with mayo...no mayo...did she not write it down or was it the cook? who knows...I asked her to get me some mayo...she came back and said no. im like #######? she said they didnt have mayo. how can a restaurant not have mayo? she walks away. i flag her down again and ask her to go to the kitchen and get the jar of mayo out of the fridge, open it and put some in a portion cup (had to explain what thtat was also) and bring it to me. DUH

after she went off to do that i said to my sister 'there goes her tip' and my sister replies 'tip? I dont tip waitresses, they earn a wage just like I do and no one tips me' To which I replied to her in horror...'they make LESS than minimum wage!'

ya know what....she had no idea! A lot of people dont really realize that servers make less than minimum wage. Although in Canada, its only $1 per hour less and you arent taxed on your tips :) So it really works out better.

Also...Ive always been amazed at the nerve of some cultures in some countrys where they automatically add a magical 10% to the bill for service......plates and silverware??

The dumb Americans usually include a 15% tip on top of that.

Once I found out that that happens, I started to always check the bill to see if the gratuity has been added. If so... no need to tip extra unless the service was outstanding.

hehe.. leaving cash tips are usually the preferred method for servers. If you leave charge tips, they are going to be recorded and taxed.

I don't tip..... I over-tip.

Same here. I usually give 20%+ tips. Only very very rarely have I given a tip lower than %15. If the service is horrible, I tip less but I have rarely had such horrible service to not tip at all.

After a lot of my friends have worked as waitresses, I know they got ripped off a lot even after giving good service so I try to always leave a good tip.

i only make 3.20$ every hour and i also get taxed on my tips...so a 45 hour pay check is only about 45$

So....... $3.20 x 45 = $45 ?

mawilson :) That is about right $45. All taxes are taken out as well as any taxes on tips that were billed to a credit card. Some restaurants also take out for your uniform. Where I worked if you needed new towels they charged you $3 a towel (you had to carry 2) and would take it out of your pay.

omg we must have worked at the same restaurant! Also the shoes - non skid, and non cheap.

Waiting tables can make you lots of money if you work at the right place, on the right shifts and do it right...

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!

Even with bad service I'm likely to leave a decent tip but I will never return to that restaurant.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."
