Comments : A tip, if you are in Canada, start gathering all your information when you first petition, the reason it took me so long to get my appointment from the time I got the instructons is because it takes FOREVER to get any documentation. It took me a YEAR AND A HALF to get a birth certificate...no lie...its 3-5 months for the RCMP fingerprints to come back, cnat apply for a passport (6 weeks to arrive) without the birth certificate (back to the year and a half thing)....I bet I would have had everything and been married 6 months ago had it not been for the Ontario/Canadian government timeline on getting me my information I needed. Another tip, when they take too long, and you email the PM, he writes back saying he cant do anything for you but miraculously everything happens within a few weeks :)

Consulate Review: Montreal, Canada

Event Description

Embassy Review : It was super easy, relatively fast and totally painless
I have to say tho there is so much information on the internet, that I called the consulate to clarify some things and was given false information...good thing I was suspicious and backed myself, or I would have been in trouble! My son is 14, the girl on the phne said he didnt have to come....I ought him, also I was told on the phone I would get my visa and stuff immediately, not hte case, it has to be mailed, make sure you bring a canada post mailer, the bigger ones, they wont be just mailing you your passport, there will be a manilla envelope with stuff in it a fairly large pkg so get the bigger one, not the biggest because they dont keep our x-rays, so it doesnt have to fit those in. ALso they told me that I would get my EAD at the border, no they dont do that anymore. The person who interviewed me had all the right answers, so it wa all good.
I think my appointment was for 9:30, it was pouring rain, we parked in a lot just across the street and behind a building, and were soaked when we arrived. The good news is there are a LOT of hotels right nearby, where you could probably walk, like Holiday Inn express and such. Anyways, we got inside, searched...tip...leave anything electronic in the car or your hotel room..cell phones, cameras, remote car starters, my sons chain wallet, belt and a pair of nail clippers were removed from our possession at the door, put in a holding area..which made me feel totaly safe yay for security. Up the elevator, registereed and got a number, then waited about an hour. We were called in to a back area where we went up to a wicket and the girl there went thru all of our papers to make sure we had everyting, sent us back to the waiting room to hang out for a bit, then they called us into a privte room, where we were asked a few questions, when the wedding was, how I met my fiance met etc. They scanned our fingerprints (my son and mine) and we were on our way. We were back on the road to Ontario by noon.

Event Description
Review Date : December 16, 2006
Embassy Review : Fast, nice interviewer for both my appointment and my sons.
For mine, i got the barrage of questions regarding me personally...do i plan to practice polygamy, do i plan to traffic drugs, illegal immigrants, etc etc.
She briefly looked a tthe wedding album and said reccommending me for approval pending FBI check.
My sons was even simpler, asked him less questions, said he was approved pending my approval.
It was really fast actualy, barely any waiting time and the interview was fast also.
Harassment Level : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
