I-751 Evidence Question

Hello,

I am ready to sent in my husband's I-751 application. One question... Evidences like bank statments, credit card statements, and utility bills that shows the account numbers.. Is it safe to leave them seeing.. I mean can we use whitener or some sort that nobody can the account numbers... Is it safe.. ??? Has anybody done that..

Please respond soon... Want to mail the packet today itself...

We didn't white out or cross out that information. I was concerned about that as well, because if this information falls in the wrong hands, it can do a lot of damage.

So far, knock on wood, after filing a number of forms and evidence with USCIS over the years, we have not had any issue.

I have done both.

For ROC I sent in the entire, unaltered statement. For AOS I covered the part where all the figures are listed with a sheet of paper and copied it so you can only see the letterhead, banklogo, our address, and what type of account it is.

Both ways it was fine.

If someone from USCIS really wanted to steal your identity they already have more than enough information about you. I really wouldn't worry about it.

All anybody needs at USCIS is your SSN and they can wipe your existence if they want to. I would not tamper with documents that are being sent as evidence. Especially when it comes to bank accounts. And how else are they supposed to know what accounts to verify if you whiten them off. Then again, they can run your entire life's reel by punching in your SSN. Don't bother and just send in all documents un-altered.

I agree. There hasn't yet been a post where the applicant's credit card/bank info got misused by uscis employees. They have copies of all our birth certificates and SSN from AOS so I don't think they will harm any of us. Besides whiting out the credit card number won't prevent fraud if they really want to. Knock on wood. Ultimately, we have to do what makes us sleep soundly at night and if it means blocking the nunbers, then do it. You have nothing to lose.

Adding my 2 cents.

It is easy for USCIS to find out these things - especially if they want to investigate someone further. My advice, leave everything as it is, or you can cover a few numbers but not the entire string of numbers.

Worse yet, documented PARANOIA (i.e., completely unreasonable fears that the Government is out to get you) as well as document tampering, may be reasons to deny an application.
