Well they are saying here in airport security that the overall end-effect big deal is going to be no liquids on planes. I for one am dreading a plane ride with no eye drops or contact solution, not being able to bring my own hair products, not being able to bring my own beverages (seriously, I need more water than what any airline is willing to give me) and not being able to bring liquid products down to Brazil as gifts.

I can understand...

1. Contact solution .. hmm don't know cause dont need it but I understand its important.

2. Hair products?? DO you do your hair on the plane?

3. Duty Free Shopping :D

I don't do my hair on the plane but I do do it once I get to my destination! I have rather unruly locks.

But as to duty free, they're not sure if any liquid products will be sold past security check-in (where duty-free shops are). I hope so! The shop owners are going crazy trying to comply with new regulations.

From what I've heard (obviously things are changing every minute, but...), they'll still sell liquids past security points, but before you board the plane you will be checked again and all liquid items must again be removed. So that's helpful for drinkable items but not much else.

These clear plastic bags aren't going to make security checkpoints any faster than people with huge bags, so don't get your hopes up if you're traveling. Lines are obviously longer than standard now because of all the random changes.

What I've heard is that the bombs were something involving a contact lens case and a casio watch timer type thing. At least, that's what I caught on msnbc a moment ago. Not sure if that was just an example of what it could be or actual speculation of what it was.

Just because you cant carry liquid in your hand luggage it dont stop you from putting it in your checked bags....

Kezzie

I was thinking that too. Timers are cheap.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

As I understand it, you're permitted liquid, but it has to be checked, not carry-on. So store your presents and contact lens solution in your luggage for the time being. Then they can lose your luggage. :P

Maybe this is a conspiracy started by the airlines so we have to buy more beverages?????

It is going to be a pain to not have ####### in a carry-on, but I guess we will just have to put things in our bags & check them all. I wouldn't be suprised if one day-it gets to the point where we can't bring ANYTHING on the plane-seriously :o

Well that's how it is in Britain today. I don't check my bags anymore after getting them lost 1k times, I just travel light, but from now on I think I'm going to have to carry it all on liquid free, provided they don't prohibit that too.

I HATE checking my bags....................but I have a feeling we won't have much of a choice

As are cell phones… I saw a TV programme a few weeks back where some guys measured the R/F radiation on a typical flight - you'd be surprised over how much interference there is from people using electronic devices. Some people still insist on using cell phones in flight - even despite the warnings.

The guy who destroyed the plane over Lockerbie in the 80's had explosives concealed in a cassette walkman. Doesn't take much explosive to catastrophically damage an aircraft.

Explosive powder (fertiliser mixtures), plastic explosive concealed as chewing gum - just goes to show how difficult a task faced by airport security.

It's common knowledge that they simply don't have time to do anything more than the merest cursory examination of a piece of baggage.

From ABC News:

ABC News has learned that two "significant arrests" in Pakistan in recent days may have significantly accelerated the pace of the investigation.

Many of the alleged terror plotters appeared to be of Pakistani descent. It appears that they were probably "homegrown" terrorists with strong links to al Qaeda and Pakistani operatives. This new generation of terrorists have figured significantly in plots in the U.S., London and Canada in recent months.

So if you see a bomb sitting on the ground...... DO NOT USE YOUR CELLPHONE TO CALL 911.... Instead move the bomb 50 feet away then call 911....:no::no:
