Did you notice there don't seem to be a lot of VJ men coming out of the woodwork wanting to be our virtual boyfriends? unsure.gif

It makes me very sad. sad.gif I mean, I'm healthy, got all my own teeth and long luscious (head) hair, bake, cook, knit, sew, make dazzling conversation and wicked mixed drinks with equal aplomb, wear high heels every day, make my own money, and generally act like a girly girl. It must be the sailor's mouth on me. crying.gif

Val -- Canadian advice sought, as I am off to Toronto in a trice. Will my femininity/feminism scare the natives?

Edit to add: silky peignoir and copy of The Golden Notebook of course are in my carry-on, natch.

No, femininity is highly regarded in Toronto. I really miss it, actually - the people of Houston look at me like I have two heads when I dress up fashionable (read: anything but jeans, t-shirt, and running shoes). girlwerewolf2xn.gif

But you might not want to wear the peignoir on the street...apparently there's a lot of foreigners there for sex. Wait, maybe you DO want to. tongue.gif

No, we all understand what gary, and now yourself are saying. You don't believe in the modern concept of sex equality and are stuck in a preconceived notion of mens and womens roles in society. Hence why you went to a culture that does not promote such things to specifically select a wife to suit your ideology.

Indeed, in your opinion it must be real progress now that teenage females are beating themselves up.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Thanks, but I don't deserve the credit as I never said it.

Why do feminists so belittle their fellow women that believe differently than them? I thought you were "pro-choice" maybe I have mis-defined that also? Please enlighten me how it is not my wife's choice to serve her husband (not all the men on VJ, she will leave that to Elm and others trhat send their nude photos around on their iphone)

What is wrong with a woman pleasing her husband? What is wrong with her making a sammich with real mayonnaise? Or mashed potatoes with real potatoes? When did these things become bad and why? She is my wife, not my secretary. Not my room mate. Why isn't she permitted the same choices you are? Why does she have to make the same choices you do? Why am I not permitted to make a choice without ridicule?

I do not ridicule gays or lesbians and respect their choices, I respect your choices for YOU and for your husbands, I guess if that is what they like...hey why do I care? But why can't we get the same consideration? why do I have to "like" feminists or feminism? Why do I have to marry a feminist?

And do you still think feminism is not responsible for violence?

What annoys me with your posts/way of thinking is the need to put others down in order to justify your choices. That implies (to me) that you have some esteem issues, and further cause me to speculate that you needed to go overseas because you had more 'buying power' there.

People have asked you repeatedly to explain your version of feminism, and it has nothing to do with mashed potatoes. FWIW, I make mashed potatoes from scratch, I make my man lunch with pleasure....and vice versa. I also earn a living because I want to, I think for myself because I want to. There is nothing better than doing something nice for my fiance that puts a smile on his face. I love to make him happy. The difference is, you'd NEVER hear me say I 'serve' him. I do things for him because I want to, not out of some misguided notion of 'servitude' or marital heirarchy.

We are equals...not to be confused with ALIKE...I do believe in certain gender roles, but those do not make either one of us better or worse than the other. All the 'anti-feminists' here come across (again, to me), that they are stymied by the woman who can think for herself, one who doesn't willingly genuflect when you come home from work. I will defend a woman's right to be a housewife, stay at home mom, IF that is her choice. And yeah, we can all wear stockings and heels too.

Good Lord, were we separated at birth? Only you are a way better writer and obviously much faster than I am.

Much faster at typing, people!

The irony is, I'm late to the party, and in reading this thread, I stopped at Gary's very post you both have responded to...with a very similar response and without reading either of yours, lol.

Now I read both of yours and I'm like
