From what I understand you MIGHT have to. This is the important line: "Applicants will have to pay the full fee in effect on the day they apply, regardless of when they pay." Though it doesn't explain what they mean by "day they apply" because it could be:

- day of the interview

- day you return P3 and get your interview date (this is what I personally believe it will be)

Those that have the interview coming up AFTER the date and have already been advised of it and paid the lower fee, like MeggyMo, can you advise us when you have your interview what happened? Whether they asked you to pay or not?

I emailed the Vancouver consulate and asked them about it since I paid the fee almost a month ago now. I won't hear back until Tuesday since it is a long weekend here in Canada. They are really good at responding quickly and thoroughly so I will let you guys know what they say! Crossing my fingers that I don't have to pay more!

This affects me directly as my interview is in June. However i am just glad that it is not in the thousands at the end of the day in the whole grand scheme of things and extra $200 isn't going to kill us and there's nothing we can do about it anyway. Try to stay positive because that $350 means that all being well a few weeks after you stump up the cash you get to be with your fiance. You can't put a price on happiness, however visa's you can :P. In addition we do not know how many man hours is actually put into our visa applications behind the scenes, maybe this price increase will mean they can hire a few more people and make the process quicker and smoother for others who will apply in the future. Just my two cents :)

I think that's a wonderful perspective to have :) I like what you said starting from "In addition...". I hope that's the case! LOL.

December 2009 -- Visit to Malaysia.

February 2010 -- Applied for B2 visa, approved.

March 2010 -- Visited US.

July 2010 -- Received NOA2 in 71 days from NOA1.

Wow that is kind of ridiculous. I guess they can do whatever they want but I am sure everyone is upset about how expensive everything already is! Ugh just another nonsense expense.

The fee represents the cost of providing the service, so the increase is absolutely fair. For some time, the costs have been subsidized by US taxpayers instead of being paid by those requiring the service. Two sides to every coin. This is an expensive process and far more expensive for many with thousands of miles to travel and oceans to cross. Considering the whole picture, $219 more is a drop in the bucket as I see it. By the time my wife and daughter arrived in 2006 and had green cards in hand, we had spent over $10,000 on immigration related expenses and travel, with travel being the lion's share.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
Understanding the big picture is priceless. Anonymous

If thats what they mean by their wording thats great. I'm going to contact the embassy tomorrow and ask them. I don't want to show up at the interview with the wrong amount and get a blue slip.

And I understand that. It does not mean that I can be a little upset about it considering I was under the impression I had paid EVERYTHING I need to before my interview. I know the process is expensive and I think of course if you want to do it it should be no ones responsibility but your own. All I was saying was I wasn't pleased about finding this out right after I got my interview date.

I don't believe it was necessary for you to make it sound like since I am from Canada I basically shouldn't be saying that I am upset about the increase in fee. I get that people have to pay more if they live farther away but hey I have to pay quite a bit to fly there too. I know it isn't much of an increase but still none the less upsetting since I thought it was all done.

You right, Pushy. Paying higher USCIS fees is patriotic. Pay up with pride, people!

Well guys I got the email back from the Vancouver consulate and I am required to pay the extra 219 USD regardless of whether I had paid before the 4th or not. If your interview is after the 3rd you have to pay the extra amount
