So he jumped from the Republican Party, because he would have lost the primary. Now he's gone from the Democrats, too. I'd like to feel bad for him, but it's against my better nature.

The difference between Specter and Lieberman? Lieberman stood as an independent, but stayed true to his Democrat roots. Specter was just a mercenary. We don't need mercenaries in Washington.

Yeah, I am sure having a true progressive nominee on the Democratic ballot was precisely what the supposedly non-partisan Tea Party wanted.

Many would rather see a actual democrat serve than a Democrat-lite.

This is exactly why many refused to vote McCain.... better Obama take the country into a retrievable hell-hole than McCain continue the same slide, though at a more sleepy pace. (So far this concept is working beyond expectations)

That 80 year old piece of ####### politician had the backing of the Democratic Party machine behind him, until very recently when it became obvious that the progressive netroots could win and their man, Sestak, was a real possibility. Only at that late date did the White House begin to pull back from Specter. This is a huge victory for the progressive base that elected Obama.. it's our way of reminding him who the kingmakers in the Democratic Party really are.
