Dear All,

I am very happy to inform you that our immigrant visa application (CR-1)was granted yesterday (April 13th).....I reached consulate at 7:15 AM and joined the long queue for 8 AM interview (I was lagging by some 50 person...).By 7:30 they started permitting one by one. I noticed following checks by security at Chennai :

1. Cell phones, electronic items,CD's,sealed envelopes are strictly prohibited.Even the greeting cards I brought were checked and stamped by security.

2. Pls take transparent carrybags.

3. No need to carry xray film .They require only the medical report.

By 7:50 AM, I was directed by an officer and asked to seat in front of counter 9. There were around 12 person for IV interview. I was called by an Indian lady CO at 8:35 AM at counter 9. She asked the following :

1. Wife's place in US,and what she does

2. I didnt added her name in my passport.Lady CO poined out that .

3. She asked for some loose photographs of wedding and then asked to show the same in my wedding album. She was convinced.

4. I carried W2 forms of 2009 but no one asked to produce it...

5. Then asked for marriage certficate from the Church and fortunately I had it...She asked the name of Vicar who conducted the marriage...

6. Asked me to write in malayalam (my mother tongue) in DS 230 forms (Qn 3,38) and to sign in part 2 of DS230...

ALL CO's IN CHENNAI USC ARE PROFFICIENT IN SOUTH INDIAN LANGUAGES AND HINDI...

Then she gave me a pink slip and asked to wait until called again. Her interview took around 15 minutes.

By 9 AM I was called in counter 11 to take the finger print outs.

Atlast at 10:20 AM I was called by the American CO at the same counter (9). He was young, very polite and calm unlike other rude American lady in the next counter. He asked me simple questions

1. What are you doing and what do you plan in America for a living

2. How I met wife .

3. When will she graduate

4. Asked if everything written on DS230 is true or not..

Then he told "Gentleman, your visa application is granted and you will receive passport and Visa document in one week time"- the moment for which we waited for so long......

My advices:

1. When you answer ,pls look into the eyes of the officers and start answering with a smile.

2. Never lie ( I saw others being caught and given blue slips for insufficient documents ) for anything.

3. Be confident, they are asking questions on the basis of documents submitted by you only...

WE THANK THE ENTIRE VISAJOURNEY FAMILY FOR ALL THE SUPPORT,HELP AND PRAYERS SHOWERED FOR US......WE WISH ALL THE BEST TO EVERYONE AND HOPES TO SEE A HAPPY END FOR YOUR VISAJOURNEY.....THANX AGAIN AND WILL REMEMBER YOU ALL IN OUR PRAYERS.....
