i'm happy steven will be paying for my wife and boys for healthcare while he lives in a 2 bedroom apartment and has zero chance to better himself. I'll take his money everyday ... cause he is one income (jinky) with steven providing unreported income by drawing cartoons and has only one child .... the other child he accidentally fathered with his ex is older and is is claimed with his ex ....

Reported. Stop it, Natty.

It's not the insurance, the patients, the doctors, etc.... it's the COST!

The cost of what? The universal system or that Amereican health care is SO expensive. There is some major greed going on with insurance companies. They are not hurting.

Just to add...I can't think of any of my immediate family or relatives(the ones I am close with) who have health insurance. They live life in the risky zone, outside of insurance. Yet they aren't sure they want what Obama is proposing. They do want health care and the security of insurance, but I am not sure how much they know about it or think it's wise spending of the government. They do however know the whole system is majorly screwed up and needs to be fixed, just not agreeing on every aspect of how to fix it.

Major greed? I would suggest you look at their profit margins compared to EVERY OTHER industry out there..... They may "make" money, but it's hardly anything to brag about when you compare their Revenue/costs vs. actual profits.

Uninsured people end up in the ER. Hospitals end up passing their costs on to insurance companies, who in turn pass them on to the insured.

This is why the mandate is important.

Well, I figure if something happens ya'll end up paying for it anyway... Because if say something tragic happens and I go bankrupt the bill will go unpaid as it will be written off by the hospital, then they will have to shove that unpaid portion and unrecouped costs onto the insurance companys (who are the only ones paying the bills at this point) and the people who CAN and pay for insurance, which will in-turn raise the rates on others to cover the increased costs, which will force some who did pay for coverage to drop coverage... then if something happens to them and they go bankrupt and the cycle repeats itself...

Pay it forward...

The bright side, We will have no money, but we will have each other!!!

Yeah, but then why does someone without insurance pay way more than the insurance's agreed rate with the hosp? I look at our bills, and see the billed amount, and how much less the insurance actually pays. But if I was paying out of pocket, I'd pay much more unless I default the bill(which I know, many people do...but still insurance gets discounts?).

It doesn't exactly work that way, but please try again later.

Most uninsured don't pay those amounts. They walk away. The monies get recouped from the insureds.

why ... steven posts his life on vj ....

if it is public it is open for review and critique ....

why did steven badger me about my life and who i am on vj .. to get ammo to belittle me (you forgot this didn't you or are you up his azzhole) his badgering was sick and reminiscent of a psycho patient ..this is really sad as steven is an organizer.

guess steven/organizers are above the rest of us regular folks ...

So much for the older generation having the "mature" voice. First you're calling people rapists, then you're slagging off someone's family.

Sir, you are a lowdown, dirty rat.

There you go! You hit it on the head.

Hospitals, Doctors, etc. get paid negotiated rates by insurance companies (hence the 'in-network' part of most policies)

If you pay cash in a hospital you are going to pay much more than an insurance company would.

- those who cannot pay are part of the problem

- over regulation on procedures/drugs by the government is part of the problem

- lack of medicaid/medicare payments to cover actual costs is part of the problem

Natty, you are being a complete idiot. If someone posts their life online, who cares? Your character is showing by using anything you have read(or made up) as an attack against Steven. He is liked by people here, like me, and I am not a liberal. And you need to shut it.

I didn't intend to harp on it, but since you added a new post, I couldn't refrain.

I would pay just about whatever at this point... I wish I could get insurance... I have rheumatoid arthritis and am self-smployed... There is no insurance company which will cover me with my condition in my area (I tried insurance brokers, self plans, all the major carriers and they all said NO)... I have a doctor that has a self-pay program but if I have to be hospitalized I pray that it is from a car accident or something else so that I will have some coverage... Otherwise I am screwed at this point...

I would be paying $500 - $800 a month for my medications, however, I go to Italy with my husband 2 times a year and get all my prescriptions there and bring them home and pay $3 a month (socalized medicine) as well as see my Rheumatiod specialist over in Italy ($10 ticket per visit). It is cheaper for me to take 2 trips a year than pay for the medicine and doctors over here.

I am hopeful however that after the 1 year waiting period, I can get added to my husbands policy, I realize that they will probably exclude the RA, but that is better than nothing...

So needless to say am I FOR Single payer system... I use is regularly in Italy and although not as "posh" as the health care system over here, they are very professional and I have no major complaints. The devil can have my soul if I can get my medications and not worry about losing everything I own in case of serious illness!!!

What state are you from? Most of the states have an assigned risk pool, for those that cannot get a policy otherwise above a certain threshold.
