So are people here religious and were you just raised that way or did you 'figure it out' later in life by some experience?

Me..

I grew up in a Church of Christ and that was enough to drive me nuts....

I'm an agnostic these days. :)

Grew up in non-denominational Christian church and I still follow the same beliefs. I am "religious", yes. A devout Christian or at least I try to be devout, I sometimes need to work better at it because I do care about it a lot and try to let it shape my life.

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)

If we are going by this definition:

A religion is a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a supernatural agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs

I certainly am interested in the history of the universe and what it is/consists of but I don't think it has a pre-ordained purpose - its existence is its own meaning. I do not believe in any form of supernatural entity that has the interests of human beings at its core, even less one that cares about the life of the individual. I do not observe devotional rituals/observances but I do believe in/follow an ethical/moral code of conduct as regards my interaction with my fellow human ;)

God spoke to me and told what the only true religion is. He/she said I had to keep it a secret as part of the bargain.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

I'm an atheist, insofar as I don't believe in any God, gods, goddesses or omnipotent/omniscient/omnipresent deities. I also recognize that atheism is a belief too though -- a belief that none of those things exist. And like ALL beliefs, my belief could be wrong. I doubt I'm wrong (hence my disbelief), but I'm not dogmatic, and can't definitively say "There Is No God." I just don't think there is.

I also think there needs to be a major distinction between religion and belief in a Supreme Being. I have FAR more respect for those who simply believe in a Supreme Being than those who need the collectivism of organized religion.

I am searching for a religion where I don't have to tithe, get half drowned, give up smoking, drinking, and chasing wild women to join or believe the world was created in six days, but do like that seventh day of rest. One with none of that meaningless ritual stuff or one that says, God wants you to do this or that especially when you politely ask that person if they actually had a dialog with God and they answer yes. But if they do answer yes, with no wonderment if they are smoking crack.

If I find such a religion, will let you know. Please do not suggest any religions that promise virgins as a reward for blowing yourself and others to hell.

Actually, I think that the social aspect of religion is one of its most valuable components, so long as it is not manipulative. People need other people to turn to when they have problems particularly bereavement and things like that, someone who is not connected to their family is desirable for many reasons - the 'priest' serves many very useful functions apart from trying to make people feel guilty about sex.

Now I was going to Methodist again but now go to Catholic church with my wife. She says I have to become Catholic as she is and thats that but I told her no friggin way ever will I be as that is a major sin that will doom me to hell for eternity.
