Thanks Guys, Im so relieved!!

Took Zaid for his flu shot today, Poor guy is so sensitive. We had to wait there for 30 mins after the vaccine due to his egg allergy and the whole time he was pointing fingers at the doctor and nurses saying "YOUR NOT NICE" and "DONT TOUCH MY LEG" LOL!! I bout died! They of course thought it was adorable and declared Zaid the "special patient of the day" and gave him a tshirt and a teddy (they do it for one kid a day) it was nice but he wanted nothing to do with it at the time! So glad thats over and I wont have to do it again for a whole year!

Twila, Zaid has alot of "local" reactions to food. He gets hives on his face alot but has actually never had a rash in his life. Im assuming his arent true allergies bc of this but like others mentioned I would just go get her tested. At least you will have definite answers

These sound like intolerances - like lactose intolerance. My cousin has food allergies and was born with the, and for most of his young life could only eat about 6 different things. He can now consume about 12 different foods, but it is unbelievable what true food allergies are like.

My sister, the one with banana allergy as a kid, now has a SEVERE latex allergy as an adult. She has to carry an epi-pen with her. My reaction to soy is moderate. But as my allergist says, this is for now. I need to keep avoiding as much soy as possible to avoid entering the severe category because all of this has only manifested itself in the past 10 years. I have since found out the reason bandaids leave marks on me is due to the fact they use soy in the adhesives. I can't eat margarine, salad dressings, vegetable oil (or things cooked in it), etc. The list kind of expands every year as I figure out new things that bother me. For me, the tingling lips are the first clue and usually I spit it out at that point. I just want Hana to stop the vomiting, not have the runny nose/cough, the shiners under her eyes, and feel good. (She just vomited yesterday morning when Baba unthinkingly gave her tropical fruit juice. Uhmmmm...HELLO! I told him tonight the list of things that have the same proteins as bananas that we will try to avoid until we know if that is definitely it on Wednesday.)

Hi Ladies!!

It's been a very fast 11 weeks of my life I'm going back to work (a week early) next week. Sam is so adorable now he is smiling and laughing and trying to grab stuff.. he's also sleep at least 6 hrs straight at night (since 9 weeks old) and just florish! He's been to the daycare a few days a week and he's fine so I wont worry about that but it's the seperation that is going to make me sad. I also got a waiver for Sam to sleep on his stomach at the daycare and he's a lot happier there now. He is gigantic though.. weigh 15 lbs 7 oz (98%) and 24 inches long (90%) he's very strong.

I'm going to take him to Thailand in December and he will be 6 months by then. His cousin was just born this Tuesday and he will be 3-4 months by the time I go and they can meet. I'm wondering though, when you go oversea, do you carry your own car seat? I dont think there's a car seat rule in Thailand and we will be using a lot of taxi I dont if I will get to use the car seat at all. Is there anything like a carseat for traveling infant? I plan on just holding him in the taxi, I know it's not the safest thing but i dont really know what to do. ideas?

sorry for the big pictures!

Hellooo all the new and expecting mommies,

haven't been on this board in a minute.

@Kelly, How cute! LOL Zaid was putting his toddler foot down.

Poor Nasim sees anyone in scrubs and says " I dont want a shot Mommy".. Kids are soso smart.

@ Twila, I would def get that tested with a pediatric allergist. Nasim is deathly allergic

to milk, and bc I breast fed I didn't know... all of a sudden he kept getting bronchitis and then pnuemonia

at like 6 mos. Got referred to asthma clinic for wheezing and they said he had asthma and was getting

triggered to bronchiolitis. Sent across the hall the allergist and found out it was strong allergic reaction to milk protein. And

my consumption of milk was most likely getting into the breastmilk, and causing out of control wheezing

that led up to pnuemonia. Twice LOL.

All that to say, it took some detective work but I immediately stopped b.feeding and

put him on soy formula. All that constant wheezing ceased. But have to constantly read labels. I use

olive oil instead of butter, marg./& breads, cakes all that with milk are a no go. He has Epi pen Jr, and

benadryl stocked at daycare, home, even aunts houses lol.

Go with your gut, if u think its a trigger response get it checked out. I cant imagine

if Nasim would have actually had a cup of cows milk.

On a side note, the iphone has this cool app my friend showed me that has capability to type in food

allergic to, and allows you to choose a restaurant, pulls up the menu, and tells you what

you can order or not order based on the food you type in to avoid. It even allows you to take pic of

sku bar code in grocery store and pulls up the food item, and lets you know if its a safe food.

Im switching to at&t from verizon based on that one app :)

wow its so sad to read about all of these kids with allergies these days. When I was a child I don't ever remember knowing anyone my age who was sensitive to any food.

My sister has a pollen and cat allergy but that's it. Now you're lucky if you don't have any allergies/asthma. My neighbor was diagnosed at 40 years old with celiac's disease. I can't imagine how difficult it must be to go out to eat and to come up with foods that are ok to eat because everything is just so processed.

Good point

I always talk to my hubby about the huge allergy problem in the States, I don't know how is in other countries but in my country-PERU- we don't have so many people with allergies, nobody in my family have them, you don't see commercials on tv advertising medicine to treat allergies or anything like that. It's so differente here, almost everybody on my hubby's side have them. Silvio has alergies and asthma that means Sofia can develop them I hope it doesn't happen.

My dad grew up on a farm all his life and he still lives there. Suddenly a few years ago he started having allergies. First nothing to worry but progressively worse as the years went on. It went so far that he needs an inhaler now, yearly shots and he also takes about two weeks off of work every year (usually to come visit here LOL) because the pollen get so bad in Germany that he won't even go outside. He's miserable.

I don't have any issues here. I got immunized for allergies when I was younger but still, everytime I go back to Germany (no matter if spring, summer, fall or winter) I'm ALWAYS miserable, sneezing, wheezing, coughing. I don't know if it's the house, the animals my grandma has or what but I have to start taking some of my dads allergy pills before I fly over to Germany or otherwhise I have to sleep with my head elevated because I'm having troubles breathing. I don't know how the heck I grew up there for 18 years...no idea.

Does anyone here have a Sunshine Kids Radian carseat? We bought one for Ben this weekend, after reading a ton of reviews, it's supposed to be one of the best carseats out there, with the side impact protection etc, but I find it very disappointing. First of all, hubby couldn't install it tight enough forward facing - you can still move it around with one hand even with the latch. It just doesn't seem stable. Then- there really is only side impaction for the head. There is only one very thin bar on the side of the seat, compared to the Britax, his entire side is completely exposed.

And then- Ben is a very big kid and the seat is much narrower than most other carseats. I'm really worried that he will outgrow it. I couldn't find any negative reviews on this seat. We were planning on buying one for the new baby too, since its a convertible, but it looks much more like a booster seat, I can't imagine putting a tiny infant in there.

@ Steffi: check the family safety board on mothering, there are hundreds of threads about this carseat and many CPSTs are around there as well. I would also make an appointment at your local fire station or highway patrol, they have CPSTs who know how to install all types of carseats correctly. I have heard numerous times that the Radian XTSL is a pain to install, but it is one of the safest car seats out there (it has a metal frame compared to the plastic shell of the Britax, has a 45 pound rearfacing limit, etc). I know my SIL ended up installing it with the seatbelt instead of LATCH in her Subaru and Nissan (they have two Radians in each car, for both girls). If you still have the infant bucket car seat from Ben, I'd use that for a newborn instead before moving on to the Radian. THe buckets are safer for small newborns. They outgrow them fast anyways, I mean by 4 months Jona was too big for his Maxi Cosi. We will use it now until the baby outgrows it, then move baby into the Britax Boulevard and get a Radian XTSL for Jona so he can remain rear-facing.

http://pediatrics.ab...on_stations.htm (check here for locations)

Even though I'm good at installing these suckers, I have it double checked by a CPST, in Wyoming they are at the fire stations and it is for free. In CA it was highway patrol who offered the service, and most hospitals have it too. One has to make sure though the person really is a CPST and not some self-proclaimed car seat expert.

I noticed that the German car seats here don't have the chest clip on their convertibles. No wonder my nephew crawls out of his Britax here. He is so tall, yet so small that even the tightest setting of the harness allows him to crawl out of the car seat, I find that rather concerning! I'm glad that I brought our Britax. I must say though that Volkswagen LATCH is so much nicer than the US version of it. Bigger hook, easier to locate, less hurt hands from installing a car seat!

Anna I think the LATCHES depend on the car. In my car they are hidden under a piece of fabric which I can easily pull up and voila...two beautiful big latches to hook onto but in my MILs lexus...holy cow...I rather use the seatbelt in her car or I'll break my fingers. I hate installing seats in her car cause the latches are so far back and the cushioning of the car is sooo hard that I just cannot fit my hand in there.

I also find the three point harness in the German seats concerning. That coupled with halfway secured babies where the belt is so loose...argh..scary. Oh and then it's common to have the carseat on the passenger seat. NO WAY JOSE....I saw a commercial here in the US a while back and it said "What you love the most should be on the back seat" :).

My SIL has two kids, one is 7 years old, one is 9 years old. They don't use boosters or seats anymore. I know they both don't make the 4'9" hight requirement cause I just picked up my niece and the seatbelt went up rigth under her chin.

Anna: thanks I guess I will try to find a specialist who will take a look at this, but I'm really not a fan of this seat. It seems that the latch only secures the back of the seat and the bottom is very lose, even with Ben sitting in it. And its so narrow. If it wasn't for the 80lbs weight allowance I would probably exchange it for another Britax. The one thing I really love are the buckles and the fabric quality, its very comfy.

Maybe using the seatbelt instead of latch will be easier. We have an infant carseat, but Ben outgrew it very fast, so I think we will need a bigger seat rather soon. It's so frustrating. I've never read any negative reviews on that seat.

As for the german seats- yeah I was shocked the don't have the 5 point harness, but I really like the concept of how the seatbelt is threaded throught the back of the seat, to me it was almost tighter than latch!

I agree that the latch anchors are different from car to car- I used to have a VW Touareg and their latches were a pain, whereas our Chevy latches were really easy to find.

I agree about the seatbelt threading in the back, but we don't need it yet since he is rearfacing... I think I will look at SIL's Radians and see how JOna fits in there. She never said anything about the size of the seat... And her 3.5 year old is rather chunky. I'll check it out. Funny about the latches, as all cars I have used here in the US have the kind of latch that Evi described, you sort of have to sneak your hand inside of the seat, it is super deep, and hard to get the anchors there.... (that was Ford, Hyundai, Subaru and a Chrysler, all rentals and then our own cars...)... the VW one (it is a very new car though) is so out there and exposed, I was so surprised. But I was also surprised how not all cars have latch/isofix, it's not standard in all cars and my sister didn't buy it since Ford wanted extra money for it! After all seatbelts are very safe too, if used correctly, that's the only downfall of using seatbelts...

@ Steffi, the new Britax has a super high weight limit too... I forget which one though. A CPST though totally knows how to install all of those seats. I hear so many good things about the memory foam used in the cushioning for the Radian. I personally gave up on that Cosco Scenera, it was impossible to install that one rearfacing... Bleh and I had no time to make an appointment with a car seat technician!

@ Evi: ughh yeah the passenger seat car seats, I saw it a lot here! My nephews are in the back, but all of them behind the passenger seat. The cars are smaller though, so if you put a rearfacer in the middle, both front seats cannot be scooted back... So for now JOna is behind the passenger seat as well, but latched in rearfacing. Wow about the no- boosters - boohoo - I was in a booster til I was 12, as much as I hated it - it was law - either be 150cm tall or be 12 for no boosters. Gosh was I happy to be 12. I was always short til I finally grew in 9th grade...
