hi

I was just re-reading somethings at the DOS website and now I am more confused. I was told that We will have to pay 1200 for AOS after Hani arrives. Now I am reading that He must pay 131 fee and anoter 355 fee just to have his interview? And that is after the fee we paid for the I129? And 150 for a doctor?

Please someone clear this up for me. He is filing for fiance visa and immigrant visa at the interview?

thanks

cali

There are several fees for the K1:

* The I-129F fee ($455)

* The interview fee (which will be $350 if you're just starting, but are presently $131)

* The medical fees (vary by country and what your fiancé(e)'s insurance covers; in Brazil, it's R$300 ($161) for the medical, R$150 ($80.50) for the blood test, and R$20 ($11) for the x-ray)

* The I-485 post-marriage AoS ($1010)

As well as two optional ones (employment authorization, $340, if they want to work between arrival & the green card, but not really worth it; advanced parole, $305 -- both of these are only good for the 90 days before the I-94 expire and you can get with the I-485 for free).

This is in addition to any and all travel-related expenses.

The I-129F fee is $455. Medical varies from country to country. Visa fee(paid at time of interview or before depending on country), is $131 currently but will be changed to $350 in a short amount of time. AOS(Adjustment of Status) fee paid after the marriage is $1010.

You're lookin at around $1596, not including the medical(I don't know what it is for your country), and without the fee increase. With fee increase it will be $1815ish.

Of course this is not including travel fees, postage fees, etc.

Thank you everyone for explaining that. I did not even KNOW about the visa application cost. Does anyone know when it will go into effect or has it?

its so much money. seems unfair. everytime i have travelled overseas i paid between 15 and 30 dollars for visa fees at the borders with none of this. we are not wealthy people and i am just hoping we come up with its all in such a short time. the interview is not long coming.

thanks again

The bold above is not correct. Both the quoted fees are waived when filed concurrently with the I-485. K1 can't file for EAD without filing AOS anyway so it would be silly to file separately later.

Please re-read what I said - you even quoted and bolded it "you can get [the EAD and AP] with the I-485 for free"

The K1 is eligible to file for EAD (and AP), all you need is the I94 (and in fact, you can get it at JFK without having to wait). However, they expire with the I94 at 90 days, and both take about 3 months to come, which means if you're not coming in at JFK, it's useless - it won't arrive until after it's expired... which is why it's not worth it. Maybe you'll get lucky and it comes in 2 months, but a month of additional work eligibility may or may not be worth it if you're not making a fair amount of money.

FYI that stamp from JFK is no longer a valid way for employers to confirm your work authorization status. They've been instructed to wait for the actual EAD on a new employee's I 9.

Here is a link for medicals in Lebanon. You/your SO could call for the fee (if you haven't already) http://lebanon.usembassy.gov/immigrant_vis...structions.html

$455 is due upfront

$131 + medical $ due after the embassy has received your approved documentation and schedules the interview/the medical is scheduled - 4 to 6 months down the road

$ for Flight ticket to the US - when the fiance decides to move to the US (within 6 months after approval)

Adj of Status fees are due when AOS is filed after the marriage (preferably before the i-94 expires, which is usually 3 months after landing)

The good part of the process is that not everything becomes due at once. It seems easier when it's spread out/you have time to save for it.

Hey Guys !

I went to the site and read the " Proposed Rule Making " ... anytime they propose a change, they have to have a public comment period. In this case it was for 60 days. If I remember correctly they made the proposal about 14 December 2009 .... so I think that puts the end of the comment period about the first week in February ( like now ) In the proposal they stated to be implemented " as soon as possible " after the period ..... soooo I am thinking shortly it is going to be $350 :crying:

It is such an unfair decision, they know we pay alot for everything and now they want to increase the fee. Ridiculous and totally sad... Nothing else to add. My Irish friends and Scots wrote them emails, I joined them,but I don't think that will help to stop them from making that decision :angry:

Okay, this is purely speculation on my part, but the last time they raised the fee there was a brief period of time after the published rule change and the implementation. I can not find the post now, but essentially it was published mid-month and gave a short grace-period before kicking in. Unless your interview is within a couple weeks of the rule change, then you are going to be out the additional fee. It really sucks that they can not grandfather it for those of us who started the journey months before the proposed rule change was announced. Our interview is March 10th, I am hoping that we can get in under the effect, but I am planning on paying the additional amount. I guess March 1st is a good time to look for potential announcements. Good luck! :thumbs:

Yeah, they just keep tightening the screws on these fees! And does anyone think we'll get better service for this 267% increase in fees? A rational increase would have been 30-50%..! And, yeah, public comment period is a joke.. Just a smoke screen to make us believe we actually have a say in the process. "Sure....we'll give you (US Public) 60 days to convice us why we shouldn't raise fees, then after that, we're going to do what we planned on doing in the first place...which is raise the fees 267%!"

I know we do what we have do to be with the ones we love, but these constant barrage of fees is ridiculous! And you finaly get your baby here, and paid for air fare, wedding and personal adjustments (clothes, home redecorating, food restocking, etc)...then you have a nice $1010 AOS fee waiting for you... There's my rant for the week...thank God it's Friday! :ranting:

You would think there would be some kind of grandfather clause for these policies. It's kind of like going to the grocery store and knowing you spent $200.00, then getting to the check out line and being told "Sorry your new total is $300.00. We raised the prices while you were shopping."
