is 671 credit score bad?

FICO scores range from about 300 to 850 and exhibit a left-skewed distribution with a US median around 725. A score above 713 is considered to be "good credit," and a score below 600 is considered to be poor.

Now I'm curious what ours is... Too bad you have to pay to find out.

One of my credit cards (Providian) has a little graph with your credit rating at provided by TransUnion. It is free. I only noticed it recently, and it is updated each month. It also has a neat little FICO simulator calculator that tells you how your score will be affected by paying down your debt, making minimum payments, etc.

If you have any cards, check out your member services online and you might find the same.

I have done that before, but I don't think they give an actual number score. It just tells you what is in your credit report. At least when I did it, I didn't get a number. Maybe it matters which company you use.

I thought by checking your credit score, it's bad for your credit?
