His wife, 23-year-old Frances, was illegally brought to the United States by her mother at age 6, learned of her status in high school and discovered just last year that removal proceedings have been started. Her possible deportation has left Barrios in panic as he contemplates life without her.

As usual...there is more to the story if you bother to read the story.

So why wait until deportation proceedings are in progress instead of adjusting status when she was eligible to do so? She knew she was an illegal, married a US citizen, and then did nothing to help herself adjust status. She's 23 years old now and learned she was illegal in high school. She has a 3 year old kid. How many years passed since she married a US citizen?

It seems like blaming the system here is just a cop-out. Why didn't she adjust status when she was eligible to do so? So who is really to blame here?

Without knowing the specifics of the case, I would tend to agree.

Personal Responsibility. As in -- show some. Or deal with the consequences.

I feel bad for her, the husband and the kid. Unfortunately, she waited way too long to become legal. She must've known after a few years that she can't remain illegal and never experience any problems.

She can be legally deported, but I'd rather see her become legal. Maybe a good lawyer like Susita spoke about could help.

terrible and just wrong..she was brought here by her aprents..and her spouse a war veteran depends on her..###### heartless

& has been here 17 years. 5 as an adult....done NOTHING to fix her status. now wants special treatment. C-ya F-ya bye!

She's been busy dodging taxes and USCIS fees.

Charge her parents for child abuse.

Any else think it's ironic that the liberals only care about an Illegal Alien Iraq Vet's wife? How convenient.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Illegals are illegals. You've known this for how many years now? She and the husband should be shot. The boy should be unanchored. Period.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Well you know how these "Rights groups" do this stuff.

This week it's ginning up tears for this "war-vets" family.... next week it is a Cop who married an Illegal and then we have to ask: what about a Paramedics fam or even a school teachers Fam? don't these loyal public servants also deserve a hot wife also without fear of her being deported?

Nothing new here really.

On the humor-side of this, I am reminded of a Class I had in boot-camp where we were warned to be careful when we get shipped-off, over seas.

"There are women who will use romance as a means of getting support or even citizenship."

And then we were advised to make sure we had our "Rain coats" on.

(true story).

Well now, it seems like thanks to some libs..... this cautionary tale might be necessary to "state-side" service as well. (and perhaps shared in high school sex-ed class as well)

It's interesting how these folks flow into our country.... and we are assimilating more to their home countries, than they are to ours.

Illegals cannot adjust status through marriage to a US citizen.

You've been here long enough, you should know that.

To adjust status, you need *some* kind of a legal status to begin with - obtained

legally by coming into the country through inspection on a valid visa.

When you cross the border without inspection, there's no status to adjust from.

Of course you are right but that begs another question: Why when she talked of marriage didn't she "slip back across the border and come in under and easy K-1 or k3...... problem solved.

The simple situation is: her parents brought her to this country knowing sooner or later another amnesty would go through,

they may yet be right.
