I'm working to complete the various AOS forms and I find it very aggravating that I have to duplicate information we submitted as part of the K1 process. The vaccination certification is a good example. My fiancee had the vaccinations in China and that information was submitted to the Embassy. We have to go to a local Civil Surgeon to certify she received the proper vaccinations. That will not be covered by health insurance. Also the Affidavit of Support duplicates information previously submitted. And they charge me $1010 for the privilege!

I'll play the game to receive the imprimatur of the good folks at homeland security but I'm grinding a lot of enamel off my teeth.

Please read the pinned topic at the the top of the page from my meetings and correspndence with a USCIS director. The issue of vaccinations is covered. There is a Dr. Arnold in Texas, civil surgeon that will update anything for you for $30. Search around the site here, he is mentioned often enough. You can have any needed vaccines at the local health department. Check that pinned topic.

Sorry, the pinned topic is in the K-1 forum.

THANK YOU! I had not seen this. One more question for you. The person at the SS office said we did not need any additional EAD once the SS card was issued. Any idea if this correct?

I don't think that is correct. My fiance received his SS card a few days ago and it clearly states that he can't work without DHS authorization on it.

VERY VERY WRONG!!! she cannot work without EAD or her GREEN CARD!! if she does she will be in A LOT of trouble!

Getting the SSN prior to EAD and or GREEN CARD is mainly for getting things like bank accounts/ joint bank accounts/ car insurance/ medical insurance ETC as most of these things you cant do without a SSN and you need most of these things to prove relations at the AOS interview.

She cannot work unless she has the EAD and SSN, or Green Card and ssn. This person you spoke to is wrong!

I just wanted to comment that the K1 visa is actually issued by the Dept of State via the Embassy and the AOS is approved by the USCIS (Dept of Homeland Security.) So you're dealing with two different government agencies who each have their own requirements. It helps to think of K1 as a "done" process once the fiance enters the US. The AOS is a brand new process with USCIS and they aren't really following your K1 papers like we tend to think. So they gather their own info which seems repetitive to us but is more like new info/new process to them. Their is some "sharing" allowed (like accept the DOS/Embassy medical info for AOS), but separate government agencies don't communicate with each other that well. Yes, still annoying to have to repeat the info, but maybe you understand better why it happens.

I always thought of the AOS process as 'transposing data', from one set of forms (the k-1 set) to another (the I-485). If you kept copies of the K-1 stuff, then you already have a good basis of data to transpose to the 'new' forms.

But hei - you think it's bad now?

Just wait till yer filing for ROC, you've got to give it all, once again.

Then again for citizenship, if she decides to go that route.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

I do agree with you on vaccinations part. Luckily my wife brought a copy of the vaccinations she received for her medical for the K-3 interview. I still ended up paying $55.00 to a surgeon just to fill out a form and sign it. It's a rip off.

Read here:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...t&p=3553624

It would indicate on the I693 instructions, page 4, that the I-693 is not necessary if the DS-3025 was filled in and filed correctly during the visa application process at the embassy.

Also, be aware changes have been made in vaccination requirements (HPV and Zoster no longer required as of December 14, 2009). Additional links and information is available in the above thread.
