Seb - the long time apart makes the reunion that much sweeter, right? :) I know you are excited to see her! The longest Sifa & I were ever apart was one year and 4 months...Kenya is a loooooong (expensive!) way from Texas!

Kayla - I am already freaking out about AOS stuff too, haha. We have started getting everything together so that once we get the marriage certificate back in the mail we can send it in ASAP.

Kjenkins: Crazy! We applied for our marriage license this morning! Whole thing took 20 minutes, including wait time. No appointment. They gave it to us when we were leaving...guess that must really vary by state/county!

The way we will be doing it is that we will have sand already poured in the bottom that represents the love, trust, faith, and togetherness that makes our relationship strong. Then I will have my parents and his parents come and pour a little bit of sand from our respective jars to symbolize the two families. And then Mathew and I will pour the rest of the sand from our jars into the vase, mixing them together.

OMIGOSH!! How ironic! That's what we're doing, too, only we were just going to mix the two colors from our wedding into one vase. Yours sounds a lot more unique! I like this idea more than the candle because the vase is more climate temperate. You have to be so careful with candles and I'm so afraid something would happen to it, lol...

I just went to go apply for marriage license & was told I have to make an appointment first, so I said ok. Next available appointment is May 6th; it takes 3 days to recieve it & I'm not sure how long it takes to get an appt get married in court. The church ceremony isn't looking good because no pastor wants to marry me without pre'marital counseling, which takes 3-6 months.. Sooo, hopefully I'm not screwed.

Kayla: I printed the papers for AOS as well and it's CRAZY!

Wow, that sucks! :( I always thought marriage licenses were all walk-ins (I know that's the case in NYC and the part of FL i'm getting married in at least), though the waiting period often varies. That sucks that you have to wait until May 6th! Hopefully there will be a cancellation and you can squeeze in earlier.

The longest L and I have been apart, since we met, was 6.5 months, and it was really rough at the end. It wasn't our choice, either; we had applied for his tourist visa, and he was to come for a month in August, between his classes ending and work/school beginning, but his tourist visa was denied because apparently girlfriend trumps work and a free college education.

I honestly don't know how couples who are apart for years at a time can do it.

Wedding licenses where we're getting married (New Orleans) are walk-ins too. They're also walk-ins where I live (about two hours east of frenzy :P).

I just took a look at the forms for AOS and wow...just wow. Maybe I`m not recovered from all of the paperwork of the K-1 visa, but looking at AOS makes me wanna :crying:

It's not that bad. It really isn't. We finished ours (except for the SSN, visa number, and I94 number) last week.

But make HIM do it if you aren't ready to handle more paperwork. It'll take him no more than a day (and probably more like an hour if he has the VJ examples open in another window while he's doing them) to get all the paperwork but the I864 done, and I'm sure even with all the wedding planning and preparation, he can carve out two hours to do HIS paperwork. They're HIS forms, in HIS name and HE has to sign them.

The only thing that has anything to do with you and requires your signature for the AOS is the I864.

*steps away from the forums* AOS stress...marriage cert stress... uhm..uhm... im freaking out man! lol

ahhhhh

Im not looking forward to AOS either...

Krystle... Kayla is right..check around..beause we were told the county clerk does it within 1 day and you may be able to find a pastor who would be willing to allow marriage course after marriage... considering the situation..

I think our situation is.. marines must attend marriage counselling for 1 year after marriage. So we didn't have to worry about the Course before hand. He's Christian.. I am not.

Something like that, frenzy! I'm a little mad that we have to haul our butts all the way to DSM for our biometrics and what not, but I suppose I'll just combine it with a weekend there to introduce him to my college buddies (who are almost all in the greater DSM area) and some family.

 I didn't realize a 3 letter word got a 4 letter censor hash here!

Finally almost done cleaning. Just have the bathroom left and that's it. Going to clean that tomorrow so I don't over work myself. So how's everyone doing? Jenn must be busy cause I haven't seen her all week. I keep cleaning and then the dog keeps moving and so I repeat and the crazy cycle goes on. Gotta say the house hasn't looked this clean in a very long time.

My internet for whatever reason is f-ing up so I'm using my phone which doesn't load the smileys and takes a day & forever to loaf the pages.

I'm so p'd off, I called to see if I can get a sooner date and they were so rude! At first they asked what's the deadlline and I said June 3 (He came March 3) then she goes "you have enough time, keep your appt" I wanted to say so bad "you ignorant biotch I need to allow enough time to get the license, get married, get the certificate AND mail AOS so it can get there in time!!" But I controlled my tongue and asked again if I can get a sooner date and she took my number, said she'll call and didn't. So I'll be there on Monday. If you guys don't see me check in by noon, start a fundraiser to bail me outta jail because if they give me a hard time it's gonna be on!

Kjenkins, I'm very sorry this is happening to you. I wonder why they set appts for something as simple as that anyway? I've never heard of such a thing. Are they that overwhelmed by weddings where you are? I hope everything turns out well for you.

My daughter and her husband married in a chapel in Oralando right outside Disney World; they got thier license one day and married the next.

Worse comes to worse go marry in a different state.

Yeah...anything that HE has to fill out I fill out. Always been that way with us. But I love him so meh.

i fill out everything too. But that's because I want to - I'm much more more detail-oriented and a perfectionist so i am much less stressed if I do it for both of us. That way I know it is all good. Control freak what? i mean of course we go through the questions together if we need to but in the end i will fill it out. In fact i already started filling out (rough draft) the AOS forms, heh...

So, question for everyone - my honey is forgetful and he knows it, so he asked me if i could send him a list of important papers and things that he needs to bring with him there. That way he can follow the list and make sure not to forget them! SO I started here, but would love to know if I'm missing anything:

Important things to bring:

- Passport with Visa

- Sealed Envelope

- Birth Certificate

- Divorce Certificate

- HS Diploma

- Vaccination Records

- Regular ID Card

- Details of Military Service (i noticed on one of the forms for AOS it asks about this)

- Military ID?

- Merchant Marine passport/ID?

- numbers/emails of possible job contacts (hotels, friends of friends, etc)

- any recommendations from previous companies

- letter from his ex-employer indicating most recent job, length of time

- kids' birth certificates

- important phone numbers/emails of friends/family

- police record (would he need this again for anything?)

- any prescrip medicines he has

Thanks all!! Happy Saturday! I am unfortunately a bit sick (head cold and fever last night, hate it when i get sick from the plane...germies galore!) so can't be as productive as i'd like...but hoping if i rest well today i can be super productive tomorrow.

:)
