A late August filler joining the group. So tough waiting for approval. I just wish for this wait to be over so that I can get on with other aspect of my life. I guess I worry too much over USCIS that I do not even have any control over. If I can just focus, it will be great for my life.

We've tried Skype a couple of times, but ended up hating it. The sound quality drives him mad(it seems fine to me). But since I have AT&T as my home phone service provider I can get unlimited calls to Canada for $5.99 a month. He's got the same plan with whatever company he's got up there. But I guess we've been kind of spoiled in that aspect. If we didn't have those calling plans I bet we'd think Skype was the best thing since wonderbread! :)

Skype is a godsend for us. Even though we don't actually get to "Skype" that often, only once a week when my fiance is in port, it's still wonderful to see his face (however fuzzy with the terrible internet connections there! ;)) But the bigger reason it's a godsend is because i use their "skype to go" service to call him from my cell phone and also to send him SMS to his cell from my computer. much cheaper than what my cell provider charges, even with the international plan.

Skype is great for the phone and SMS messages.. but to see and talk to each other we use MSN. Much bigger and better quality picture and sound. I can't imagine only being able to see him once a week :( I think I would go crazy! Even with the text messages and phone calls throughout the day.

The hardest part for us is that when he's on his computer before going to bed, I'm still in my office.. and supposed to be working :).. but my boss is great about it and my employees know not to bother me between 4:30pm and 5:30pm unless it's really important!!

I tried MSN too but if the internet quality is bad (case of her internet), Skype is much better and reliable. I talk to her in Skype everyday... and sometimes even sleep with the computer on, in case we have the urgent need to see each other in the night (only in the weekends though). I love Skype (and MSN) but I cant wait till I no longer need it. :)

In some of your timelines, I see "touched" What does that mean??

That means something has been done with your application. It could simply be that it was moved from one desk to another.. it could mean something more was done with it. If you go onto the USCIS web page, you can check the status of your petition when you sign in to your account. It will show the last date any kind of action was taken and this is what people refer to as a "touch"

I have read, in other forums, that every time your application is handled they scan the barcode and that is how it is registerd that some action has been taken. Again, it could simply be that your petition was moved from one pile to another. It could mean they were working on your petition.

Some people get mutliple touches, some only get one.. It seems they don't always scan it when they do soemthing with it. I think mine was probably when they took the check out of my packet to cash it :)

Thank you! I have been "touched" once too. I feel like I am addicted to checking this thing. We had our wedding scheduled for October 31, but had some delay in the paperwork gathering. I had to cancel everything, but was hoping to still be able to get together on the date...even if I had to meet him in Hawaii!

Ohhh.. Sorry you had to cancel everything. Getting married on Halloween! That would be fun :) It looks like they are still approving a good number of recent applications, though I am prepared that will slow down soon. Maybe some of the early September filers, like you, will get lucky.. and then all the October filers can start getting excited by seeing your approval dates they way we all are about seeing someone from August get approved!

I know what you mean about being addicted to checking all of this. The person who told me about this site warned me that it could be a little addictive. I check it way too often, when I should be spending my time doing something more productive :)

Hi there

Was just reading through all the comments on how people stay in touch during this stressful and emotional period. Chris and I use a variety of methods with skype being one of them, I am lucky that a majority of time I get to work from home and therefore both he and I have skype up 24/7. its actually 6.03am here and I can hear him gently sleeping away, just tossing and turning from time to time. When I wake in the morning there is always an email from him and then when he wakes I will usually take a break from work and we will talk in skype and maybe play some world of warcraft together. Once he goes to work we will usually text each other and speak by phone at least once during the day. When he gets home from work we will talk in skype about each others day and discuss plans for the future, the house we have just bought together out in the US and also plan future trips. I am a ####### sleeper so we have discovered that when he reads to me I drop off like a light (must be the child in me !!), its a great way to share books!!

At weekends we will either spend time in WoW or do some work together for a charity we both support, we donated an island to them in second life so have great fun arranging events together to raise the profile of the charity.

Skype is just a wonderful tool that allows us to carry on with our lives knowing that each other is there when we need them!!

Just wanted to add one more thing, Chris and I started a blog together, only we have access to it and it allows us to be able to write about what we feel and event to vent some of our frustrations. We have an agreement to be open and honest with each other at all times. This process and the distance between us is not an easy barrier and at times impatience, frustration some times gets the better of us all. Many a time I remember him asking what was wrong and I would say nothing!! knowing damn well that there was something bugging me... and the same for him. Having the blog allows us the ability to just dump everything down and its amazing how much of a burden is lifted once it is all out in the open... Its also an amazing record of our journey and even looking back at early posts its amazing how much our relationship has grown.

Our long distance relationship would not last without skype! I was without a laptop for two weeks just recently and it was hell!

Seeing each other is crucial..The other great thing is that we both have phones with email, so we can email each other instantly and it only costs me $5 a month for unlimited email on my phone. As I work in a an office in front of a computer all day we keep in touch all day via email as well. Before I got email on my phone we were texting back an forth, and my fiance's phone bill was out of control, now we can email non-stop, and we don't text at all.
