i am fully prepared to take the test to get my permit.

www.dmv.state.va.us/webdoc/pdf/dmv141.pdf

i have to prove virginian residency in order to take the test.

i dont have a job here neither am i in school nor i have a bank account which is 30 days old at least(seems like a bank account has to be 1 month old).

I didn't see anything about a bank account having to be 30 days old?

Why not have your wife/husband add you to her/his bank account and get a bank statement at the bank.

I personally don't think that mean that it actually has to be for a month, it's just a term they are using for 'bank statement'.

Your Mother needs to add you to a bill - say the electricity bill - have the mailing address put in both your names. Then she needs to ask them to send her a copy of the last bill - or again, open a joint account with your Mother, tell them you want them to send you out a statement immediately.

I don't think Virginia is trying to trick you, they just want to make sure you live there - so give them what they want.

i dont either think they are playing a trick.i know they have their requirements and they have to make sure.of course.

but my mom just arrived with me

we are living in our uncle's house.i think his property papers can help to prove virginian residence.actually i thought they would only accept papers which carry my name or my dad's

Go to Staples and get a generic lease.

Have your mom's name and your name as the tenants and have your uncle as the landlord.

The whole system has change over - you can not just walk in and get a license, it will be mailed to you anywhere from 7-10 business days later. If you're leaving to go somewhere else just keep that in mind.

I'm in VA, and I belive I used my cable Bill to show i resided in VA for the DMV

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

When living in Virginia on a J1 visa, I requested a bank statement from Wachovia. It wasnt a month old as I had just opened my bank account. However, I had to pay a few dollars, because it was an "extra" statement as they usually only send one for free once a month.

Register with the United States Postal Service. We used family's address during our CR-1, the notified USPS of our change of address after we moved. We filled out the forms individually.

You can also sign up for some service like cable internet. They'll install the hardware quickly and your bill should arrive in a week or so.

Oh, yeeah. Go to your local library and apply for a library card. You'll be asked to fill out a form with your name, address and phone number on it. They'll give you your card that same hour. You can ask for a printout of your member details. Otherwise just go to their printing/copying service and print out a copy of the form before you give it to them.

i think you have to have lived in VA for 6 months. so if you've got anything that you can give to them six months back, that might just do it. i'd also get the VA ID card too while you're there. good luck.

Timeline:

Sent in I-130 form: 01/29/09

Interview Date: 11/08/09 (APPROVED!)

Visa in Hand: 11/12/09

POE: 01/30/10 (!!!!) at JFK Airport in NYC... can't wait!

Got the green card maybe 8 weeks after 01/30/10...

TBC....
