I've read some topics here that hiring a lawyer is unncessary and sometimes it causes more delays. My wife will hire a lawyer for she is afraid to commit mistakes with the whole process.

What do you think guys, any words so I can tell her what to do?

Thank you very much.

Tis quite obvious that you both know how to follow instructions :)) I trust your wisdom and astuteness. Save your money. Do not hire a lawyer.

My problem is, it' s hard to convince my wife. Even the processing here in Saudi Arabia. I told her that we can process the petition here instead of I will go back to the Philippines.

This lawyer is working with her since 1995 that is why she really trust her.

Well then, it is your call. Is this lawyer an immigration lawyer? You see my fiance Greg is a lawyer, yet he does not trust those in immigration law. HA HA HA

I wouldn't hire a lawyer if I were you. In the beginning when we started the process we did consult with a lawyer regarding my visits and stay in USA but that was it. We did the whole process alone. And of course with the help of the VJ friends. Whenever you need info about something there are always people here ready to answer. And it doesn't matter that they are not lawyers, they have enough personal experience

So save your money and get your wifey on a nice vacation :P

I would have submitted to Vermont.

The lawyer sent all to CA. Made it somewhat worth the price.

It's difficult to read and synthesize all the good info here on VJ

the lawyer is overpriced....

but IF I had a question.....I knew the best place for a fair answer and I could verify it here.

It is VERY advisable and prudent to consult a knowledgeable attorney before filing, if only to uncover any potential red flags that could harm you during processing of the petition or (especially) at the consular stage. If you find an immigration attorney who also has personal experience as a consular officer, even better.

VJ is your lawyer !!!!
No, VJ is NOT. On what authority do you state this?
it is quite an easy process
Not for everyone. On what authority do you state this?

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I considered hiring a lawyer for the exact same reason. Then we found VJ and read the guide of how the process works. I downloaded all the forms to see how difficult they were. After seeing them and the examples, I realized we could do this ourselves. Afterall an attorney is just going to ask the same questions on the forms and then fill in the blanks. When I had questions on the forms VJ was the first and only place I needed to go. I found all of the answers I needed here.

The immigration lawyer I spoke to said it would take about 5 months to get my wife here on an IR-1. We completed the whole process ourselves in 4 months and 1 week.

If you would feel more comfortable hiring a lawyer go for it, but do yourself a favor by looking at the forms and studying the process. You just might feel it is something you can do too.

IMO I felt like no one would care as much or do the forms as carefully as we would.

Share your password with her or invite her to take a look over the page. First read the guides and take a look at the samples filled out. My personale experience: Not lawyer needed for this process, save the money for something else. I am not the USC and I did all the paperwork,

I hired a lawyer, he's doing fine for us, but I hired him before I realized what a help and a blessing VJ is. Every day I am learning how helpful VJ is and I have met people here that show more personal interest in our plight than the lawyer (any lawyer) ever will! Unless you have some very unique situation with special circumstances, VJ is all anyone could need. Thank you VJ!
