Just out of curiosity, what did you all find was the hardest part of this whole process? Was it being away from your loved one, dealing with the government, or was it anything else that you found difficult?

The waiting, mainly. My wife (then fiance) was living with me in the UK, so that was no problem. The medical was simple and painless. Interview was fine. Disliked all the paperwork.

Our case went fast, almost too fast, I was cleaning up remodeling debris the morning she arrived! Dealing with the governmnet is not so bad if you keep it to a minimum. Calling them and forever checking the "updates" will only frustrate you. Wait for the NOA2 to arrive in the mailbox.

The hardest parts? After Alla arrived...

1. Driving lessons (Stephen King doesn't have a clue about terror, trust me!)

2. Converting a bachelor's house into a woman's house...it is the most expensive part also.

But the good news is, no matter what happens during the day, Alla sleeps close behind me every night. NEVER take that for granted! NEVER forget all you had to do to be together.

The above posts were hillarious but yes the hardest part remains the long wait. I used to think if I went overseas to serve in a number of bases out of the country I might have found someone in the surrounding area. I was thinking that you can just marry and take your spouse back with you with no questions asked but upon learning the cold harsh facts you have to realize that the US has to protect itself somehow from even innocent and legitamat immigration because of fraud, narcatics, terrorism, and human smuggling.

I will definately remember all that I had to do to bring my loved one closer to me. It truly is a monuemental life changing experience that touches a lot of people from both sides of family.

Yes, the waiting apart with no news and no means to access what is going on.

You are exactly right...not knowing what is going on, sometimes for a week at a time, and when you finally get in touch, you have so little time for loving talk, since its all visa business, and dealing with obstacles.

Being away from him and not knowing when I will see him again. because I'm in the stage right now where im just waiting on my interview/medical its really hard for me to plan anything to see him and its driving me crazy. The waiting would be easier if I could just hold him again

I agree with the not knowing part...will we be lucky and only wait a few months to get our NOA2 or will we be waiting a year? Will we get any RFEs? For what? When will we be together in the US? When can we get married? Etc.

Plus the financial aspect is/will be hard for us too because we both recently finished our master's degrees, don't have real jobs yet, moved to Australia in February (to be together during this process)...and then once we get to the US, Chris won't even be able to work for a few months! So the financial part is definitely going to be a struggle for us!
