We are just beginning this process, filing the I-129f in June..

wondering how much roughly we should save up for everything start to finish...

How much is the K1 part? Im assuming my Uk fiance will have to pay this in London?

I am the main financial provider, so I need to know approx. how much to set aside for him..

thanks all!!

Don't forget to include costs of mailing, visits, gifts, phone calls, etc...

it all adds up.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

It costs way too much.. but I can break it down well what I remember at least...

Petition: $455

Medical: 180GBP plus any vacs

Police Certificate (UK): 35GBP

Visa: $131

SMS: 14GBP+

Plus Transportation to London for the interview. and in some cases a Hotel.

All that for a not even 15 minute Interview! What an anti-climax.

Then all the little things like mailing paperwork and notaries.. along with the shipping of belongings and plane ticket.

Count your lucky stars in such an event. Other consulates are quite the opposite, and people who are damned to places like those typically view London interviewees with envy.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Its going to be a little different based on your individual needs. This depends on your age category and what you require to pass the medical, as well as the consulate you are working under and how far you need to travel for your interview and a lot of other little things. I calculated mine a little while back and this is what its going to cost us:

Filing I-129F: $455

Medical: $275 + $50 courier fee to get the results

Gardisil vaccinations: $180 x3= $540

Police Check: $40

New birth certificate: $35

Renewed passport: $87

Photos: $50 (approx.)

Sending Packet 3 to consulate: $25 (USD... I was in the states and sent it via USPS express international)

Interview: $300 (rental car) + $200 (hotel for the night)- you could definitely do it cheaper than that!

Visa Processing at consulate: $131

Photocopying Fees: $10-15

Moving: $500 (approx.)

Marriage License: $10 (in the state of Colorado)+Wedding costs (A lot for us, but that's our choice)

Certified copy of marriage license for AOS: $50

Civil surgeon to fill out I-693: $30

AOS: $1010

For us, the entire process is going to cost us almost $4,000. But worth every penny!

21 months later, you'll pay the then current fee to remove conditions. Today, it's $595. Later, citizenship has its fees too but that's entirely optional.

it all adds up.

Thats not true...the op was just wondering the cost, doesnt mean they cant afford it. a bit judgmental.

If you do Skype, then phone calls are reasonably free. Also, I don't see how gifts figure into the 129-f petition.

Itz good to have a financial cushion of $10K USD when fiancee arrives. If one struggles to have this cushion to provide for the fiancee, then you may be struggling financially, and thatz getting the relationship off to a rocky start, unless your love truly can pay the rent. Cheers and good luck :star:

There is truth to this. Compare it to buying a car. The cost of the car, is just the beginning, not the end, of ongoing expenses: Insurance, maintenance, fuel, detailing, tires, brakes, fluids.

If a petitioner does not have savings in the bank for his bride, he is starting out on the wrong foot. Assuming most beneficiaries dont have much money and cant work for awhile, then the petitioners weekly expenses double for many things.

Going bare bones and just hoping for the best wont cut it. So for some petitioners, they might have to wait a year or two until they build up financially to do it right for there true love, man. And there ain't nothin' wrong with doing it right! (L)

Depends on which country you're dealing with. In some, gifts may be a necessary part of the process.
