Hi everyone,

Just a little question about birth control, I'm not sure if I'm putting this in the right thread but here goes anyway:

I brought with me from Canada a years supply of birth control (thats all they would give me after the dreaded exam so I took it all) and now of course, I'm down to my last month. I just got a job so I could technically go to a dr and get a prescription but I was told by a co worker that the planned parenthood/family planning clinics usually offer pills for more affordable prices... so my question is this: can I get low income birth control pills? or will that go against my record (like food stamps or welfare) I don't want my sponsor paying for birth control if you know what I mean.

I don't have health insurance from my employer yet, so I'm not sure if I can go to a dr to get a prescription. My husband is a student and only has health coverage through his school for himself.

Any info on the subject would be greatly appreciated!

How about using condoms until your insurance kicks in? That way, you can save a bit of money. As you have a job, you will most likely end up paying quite a fair share at planned parenthood. But you should ask them.

AOS Approved on 10-17-08 (details in profile)

Removal of Conditions on 07-19-10

In this tedious process, we tend to forget that this is all worth it.

I love my hubby beyond anything in this world.

yeah just put a hat on in the meantime, but if you really want the pill, planned parenthood is where to go. i'm not sure if they make you go the exam again (they probably will since its been almost a year anyways) but i know at the canadian version of planned parenthood, i had to do the exam (since i was a USC up there). just give them a call.

I don't get health insurance until I've been employed for 6 months. I'll just try calling up the planned parenthood office and making an appt. Thanks for the help everyone :)

Will you be going back to Canada anytime to stock up on another year's supply?

We get our birth control from NZ, as like Canada its all super cheap (or free) there...condoms and pills.

I can't believe a box of condoms is like $10 in the US and pills are like $25/month (if I remember correct?)...

^ Depends on your insurance copay. Mine is $5/30 day supply which makes it as cheap as it is in Australia

Never saw that before. You can buy them readily nearly everywhere else.
