Congrats James!

Wow I'm so impressed with Miami!!!! We used to take sooooo longgg! Now look, all 3 Miami people have Oath Dates already this month, and were 3 out of 6 of the first this round of applications......

Are we living in a dream world???

I think the price increase + job loss/unemployment contributes to less of the people who live here on very little money not to apply thus freeing the way for us???

Long live the recession! :D

I'll need to scratch out my proposed name change. My address changes a few days after the interview to the Denver area so hopefully I can do the oath there. I started contracting in late June so I'll add that to the work history section if asked. I'll start a new job in August in the Denver area so I'll add that also if asked. That is if the IO is interested in the future as oppossed to just what has occured since the application to the interview, which is probably unlikely. Not too bad afterall. Oh and there's that sex change to mention....not! So only 4 possible revisions...

I'm pretty sure, there will be an USCIS fee for sex change and since you haven't sent that across, I would suggest that you keep it on the down low.. :D

I'm curious how long is your name change going to delay your oath date as I'm in the same boat. Do update & good luck.

I'm actually going to request that the name change I requested on the application be scraped altogether. Not due to a delay in the oath, although I am sure that would have delayed things, but just because of the amount of work involved afterward in updating my new name with the world. Too much hassle. I'll keep what I have. My mom will be happy to hear that! Good luck to you also!

Just wanted to share my interview experience with all of you since this forum has been so helpful and informative.

My interview appointment was at 1pm, got there around 12.50pm (was planning to be there at 12.30 but got delayed). There were 2 or 3 other applicants in the waiting room. Around 1.05pm I was called for the interview, I asked the interviewer if I need to bring my spouse along and he said No. He was a very friendly guy, but definitely in a hurry (no complaints about that :) ). After a quick comment on the hot weather, he checked my DL, Greencard and Passport. I had filled the application form online so somehow it rounded up the days I have been out of the country as 90 instead of the actual 72, so he had a question on that and he corrected it himself. Then he did the English reading and writing test, and then started the civics test, I can't believe I am so forgetful or maybe I was so happy that I remember only one out of the 6 questions:), who becomes the President if the President can no longer serve.

Then he asked questions from the application form, I had forgotten to list my professional membership in the application form so he added that. After that he had me sign on the pictures and the form which states that I am approved. He asked me if I am willing to do Oath tomorrow (I love Portland USCIS office, they are so fast and efficient and friendly), and I said "definitely". So he gave me the form for the Oath and briefed me about the Oath process. And then it was done, the entire process hardly took 10 minutes.

MsAnn, I know your interview will be at Portland USCIS, you can be all rested and calm, it will be a breeze.

Adding my Oath date.

Hello to everybody. I had my interview today so here is my report.

The interview was at 8:40 I was there around 7:55. I gave the receptionist my interview letter and sat down to wait for my name to be called.

I was really nervous so the OI called me she was really nice, she swore me in and she asked for my passport, GC, DL. Then she ask for my name change, so I said I don’t want to change my name and she said well so your name will be (such such) and I say but that is not the name that I have in my GC, SS,DL, etc.. and she said but it is the one on your birth certificate. So now I’m confused how can I be using this name all this time if it wasn’t the correct name.(we change my middle name for my last name when applied for the GC) I understand that you change your name for naturalization if you want a different name that’s on your GC. So the argument was that I have to keep my middle name as on my birth certificate or change it to the one I have been using all this time… isn’t that weird?? So I agreed to change it because I have everything in that name. I don’t know how it is going to affect my oath. Can somebody give me an opinion please?

Well the questions were :

1- What is one promise you make when you became a United State citizen?

2- Who was the first president?

3- Name two national U.S holidays?

4- Where is the Statue of Liberty?

5- Who is the governor of your State?

6- What movement tried to end racial discrimination?

The reading was:

Who lives in the White House?

The writing was:

The president lives in the White House.

So she congratulated me and said you passed so you will be recommended for approval.

So now I have to wait for a letter in the mail for a Oath ( now who knows how long it will take to get a Oath).

Thanks guys and good luck to all that still have to go for interview..

Thank you for posting your interviews experiences sjjp1974 and pampita2!!

sjjp, that's great to hear!! The fed. building is in a part of Portland I'm not used to but at least I hope my interview will go as well as yours once I get there  I have an 8:30am appt so I'm hoping for same day oath so I don't have to make my way back out there again  I have to take the MAX.

The above is not legal advice.

It is either from research or merely my opinion.

I am done! I took the oath today at ATL.

The notice required appearance at one o'clock. They started by seating us at the very end of the waiting area. We had to show the greencard and our oath letter. One officer went from person to person in the row and confirmed the questions asked on the letter. (Some questions were restated, so that the actual answer was yes, instead of the all no's you would have on your letter.

Then we were ordered into the ceremony room, row by row, so there was confusion. At the check in table we received a number and had to go over our certificate of naturalization for printing errors. Then we were seated and the actual ceremony began.

The director gave a speech and we were to watch 3 short videos, plus oath and pledge to the flag. The actual ceremony started at 2 pm and ended approx. at 2:30pm. There were 47 people naturalized today.

Suprisingly, my name is spelled correctly and it seems that I won't have to deal with USCIS anymore.:whistle: I can't tell you how relieved I am. To all of you, good luck. After all this time, the oath ceremony is really the easiest piece of the journey!!!!!

I went for my interview today. For those of you still waiting for your interview: it is a breeze. I got to the federal courthouse building in downtown San Diego at around 8:30am. I checked in at the window and gave the officer my interview letter and waited to be called. My interview was scheduled for 9:15 am and the officer called me right on time. He was very nice and friendly. The only thing I was a little worried about was a speeding ticket I had not disclosed on the n-400... I told the officer during the interview about the ticket while he was going over the "yes/no" questions of the form.. He looked up and said "it was just a speeding ticket, and unless you were arrested you really don't have to worry about it." he did not make any changes to my application because of the ticket. I even offered to show my documentation about the ticket and he REALLY didn't want to see it. I can tell you that speeding tickets under $500 are NO BIG DEAL for your application and I didn't get in any kind of trouble for not disclosing it.

We then went over my name change. He wanted to make sure they had the correct spelling of my new name. When I got married in Brazil, the commissioner did not allow me to drop my maiden last name and add my married last name so I ended up with a very long name. So the officer was was actually curious to know about my last names, where they came from, etc.

He then performed the english and civics test.. I cant remember all questions that were asked, but here's what I remember:

-why does the flag have 13 stripes?

-what is the name of the national anthem?

-what is an important thing Abraham lincoln did?

For the english test, he asked me to read "why do people want to become citizens?"

he then asked me to write "Because people want to vote."

I signed my pictures, checked information on a couple sheets of paper for my name change and for the certificate.

He congratulated me and told me I'd receive the oath leteer in the mail. While he wad finishing up my paperwork, i asked him if name changes delay oaths, and he said "no, not at all."

he told me that my interview had been cancelled last week actually because they had had a ceremony on that day and someone mistakenly scheduled interviews on that day. Apparently they don't have interviews on oath days.

He told me that most likely my oathwill be on August 19th which is the next oath ceremony in San Diego.

I was in and out of his office in less than 15 minutes.

Everything was great and I can't wait until my oath!

Best of luck to everyone out there still waiting!
