Congrats, GermanInDixie!! I think you were lucky to have such a short oath ceremony :star: Plus, no more dealing with USCIS unless you want too!

Thanks for sharing your experience, tpontirolli. I *did* disclose my ticket on N400 and then my yellow said to "bring documentation on your arrest" when I've never been arrested in my life! So, I'll have to straighten that out when I get interviewed :wacko:

Thanks for sharing your experience, tpontirolli. I *did* disclose my ticket on N400 and then my yellow said to "bring documentation on your arrest" when I've never been arrested in my life! So, I'll have to straighten that out when I get interviewed :wacko:

My wife disclosed her speeding ticket on her application and we included a copy of her driving record when we sent it in. We never got a "yellow letter" and the IO didn't ask for any additional evidence except to see her green card and driver's license.

The officer did tell my wife that she should have answered "no" to the question asking whether she committed a crime or offense for which she was not arrested. She explained that she answered "yes" to that question because she had been cited but NOT arrested when she got the ticket. The IO explained that the intent of the question is really for things like shoplifting, where you weren't caught doing it. So he asked her how she would answer given that context and she said "no", so he updated her answer on the form. It seems to me they should rephrase the question to be, "Have you committed any crime or offense for which you were NOT arrested, cited, or detained?".

As per VJ tradition, here is my interview experience.

My district office is Tampa, Florida. I was scheduled to be called for interview at 10:30am. I arrived at 10:20am. I used the waiting time to run through the flash cards from the USCIS website once more. My name was called at 10:40am. The interview lasted 20 minutes. I opened my folder on the spare seat next to me to show I could provide whatever the officer needed in terms of originals or extra documents, but she did not ask for anything.

After a little chitchat, I was asked to read "Who elects Congress?". I was asked to write "The people elect Congress". Then asked:

1. Who is the Commander in Chief of the military?

2. What are two major political parties in the United States?

3. What is the political party of the President now?

4. Who wrote the Declaration of Independence?

5. Name three of the original thirteen states.

6. Name one state that borders Mexico.

The officer stopped after 6 questions since I got those right.

I'm moving to Colorado in a few days to start a new job and expected my Oath to be delayed by a few months while my file was transferred to a new district office. In fact, the opposite happened. At the end of the interview, the officer said what I expected to hear. That is that my Oath might be delayed by a few months due to my file being transferred to Denver. I said that it was unfortunate that getting a job would be a bad thing in terms of delaying citizenship. She agreed and mentioned that she could schedule the oath to be taken in Tampa on the next available date which is September 21, but I declined, saying I didn't want to take a few days off from a new job and spend a few hundred dollars coming back to Tampa and that I was willing to wait the extra time to take the Oath in Denver if necessary.

Then she asked me to wait and left the office. On her return she said that getting a new job should not be a bad thing and asked if I wanted to wait around the USCIS office for a few hours and if so, they might be able to hold an Oath for me only that day. Needless to say, I said that would be fantastic so I waited, not knowing if they could go ahead with the Oath or not as they were not sure themselves, and if so, how long I would be waiting. I took the chance anyway.

I was called back into the office only 30 minutes later, did the Oath, turned in my permanent resident card, was given my Naturalization Certificate, as well as a little book called The Citizens Almanac and a little American flag, the Oath administrator shook my hand, congratulated me and that was that. I am a US citizen!

Hi,

I had my interview today. It was quite straightforward, although I was somewhat nervous to begin with. I reached the office 10 min prior to the interview. The interview went on for about 20 minutes. First the officer went through all the questions, then he asked me to read one question ("When is the Columbus day?") and made me write the answer for that question that he dictated ("Columbus day is in October"). Then he asked six civics questions, after every question he was saying that's correct and then he moved on to the next question. Overall a very nice experience. The only downside is that my oath is after 2 months, but otherwise the application process has been smooth.

Our journey is FINALLY over! My wife took the oath on Friday with 178 other new citizens at the Miami district Hialeah field office. Of that number, 29 were from Colombia; 85 were from Cuba. All other nationalities numbered in the single digits (1 Ecuadoran, 2 Brazilians, 1 Chinese, 7 Venezuelans, etc.). The kids and I were given flags and seats of honor on the side, and mom was given a plastic bag containing various info and her flag. National anthem, a video on faces of citizenship, a video welcome from President Obama, the oath itself, the pledge of allegiance, and then a rendition of "I'm Proud to Be an American" (what? no "My Country 'Tis of Thee" or "God Bless America" even?), and it was over.

This journey began a LONG time ago here on VJ when I registered just a couple of months after we had gotten engaged. This step was by far the easiest and the least involved, with the initial step of the CR-1 visa being the most intense. It's been fun keeping track and sharing here on VJ for the last six years, and I wish everyone the best. :)

Congrats man!!! I'm on my way as we speak to the West Kendall Office for oath at 10:00 AM, My journey hasn't been as long as yours but even this was long for me, I can't imagine all that !!!!!

Next time I post here I will be a U.S Cit ;) Going straight to the Social Security Admin office then to apply for my U.S Passport.

Done deal. I am now a U.S Citizen.

10:00 Oath, took an hour, pledge of allegiance, oath, couple songs and waving of the flag and a 2 videos and I had my Cert of Nat. in my hand my 11:00 AM. Straight shot to the Social Security Administration office, took about 30-45 minutes, updated my Social Security Status, along with that comes a new social security card in the mail, is that correct?

After that, straight shot next door to the city of sweetwater building a couple blocks down and applied for my Passport using regular service, lets see how fast it comes....

thats it everything taken care of in one day... Back at work after lunch.....

Hope the passport is before Sept 4th... I hear everyone gets it fast even with the regular method....

The JOURNEY IS DONE TIME TO CELEBRATE being a U.S Citizen.

Last step: Passport!

So my only question is for the people who already did the Social Security updating, does it also come with a new card? He scanned my Cert of Nat and stapled it to my application.. I didn't think I'd be getting a new SS card also?

Uh-oh.. I just realized my interview is just a few days away. I have to dig through my files for my copies of the N400, the originals and that CD/booklet.

I am being my usual self, always waiting for the last minute :blush:

My dear husband is planning to come with me for moral support. He is being very nice about it athough I know he hates being idle. A laptop might be pushing it, but can he at least bring a cellphone?
