Hello VJers!

Yes, I'm baaaccccckkkkkk! I know I haven't been checking the forums ever since my unsuccessful Montreal interview. However I figured everybody would like to hear a happy ending since there may be other people in similar situation as me.

Just a quick recap of my situation

* overstayed on my TN-1 visa by 8 months

* went through all the IR-1 visa paperwork (have a peek at my timeline)

* had an interview in Montreal on 03/17/2008 - was given a 221(g) due to the overstayed violation.

* gave my I-601 waiver form to the interviewer in person

Then here's the latest update

08/20/2008 - Renewed RCMP Fingerprint (just in case since my first RCMP fingerprint was about to expire)

09/17/2008 - Received RCMP Fingerprint result (wow - less than a month compare to 5 months for my first RCMP fingerprint).

01/27/2009 - Received noticed from USCIS - I-601 Approved - (316 days since the interview) - Expect to hear from Montreal Embassy shortly.

02/03/2009 - Received Letter from Montreal Embassy asking to mail in my new RCMP fingerprint, updated medical report, and passport.

02/25/2009 - Renewed medical exam in Vancouver (showed up at 7am, had exam at 11am, got medical results at 2pm)

02/25/2009 - Sent all three requested items to Montreal Embassy via FedEx overnight.

03/11/2009 - Receive another letter from Montreal Embassy, asking for Canadian express post for them to send the visa/passport back to me. (Good Grief - why they didn't ask for this in the first letter??)

And now I'm spinning my wheels.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

2004-09-03 : Met at college in USA and went on first date!

2008-01-02 : Married in Canada.

2008-01-07 : DH returns to USA.

2008-04-20 : Finally received marriage certificate from the province and filed 1-130 Petition.

2008-07-08 : I-130 Approved!

2008-09-15 : Received DS-230 and I-864.

2008-10-14: Mailed DS-230 and I-864

2008-10-30: DS-230 and I-864 received by NVC

2008-11-04: RFE

2008-11-18: Overnighted missing documents to NVC

2008-11-26: Case Complete at NVC!!

2008-03-02: Medical in Toronto

2009-03-23: Interview! Approved!

2009-04-04: The big move. POE: Blue Water Bridge. All went well.

2009-04-16: SSN arrives in the mail.

2009-04-24: PR card arrives in the mail.

Yes indeed, been a year, just like the interviewer said it would take.

Well, at the moment, I'm still waiting for my passport and the sealed envelope. But I *am* hoping to move by mid-May via UHual and hard work.

Tied the knot (legal ceremony, part one) – January 26th, 2008 (kinda spontaneous)

AOS: Mailed V-Day; received February 15th, 2007 – phew!

I-485 application transferred to CSC – March 12th, 2008

Travel/Work approval notices via email – April 23rd, 2008

Green card/residency card: email notice of approval – August 28th, 2008 yippeeeee!!!

Funny-looking card arrives – September 6th, 2008 :)

Mailed request to remove conditions – July 7, 2010

Landed permanent resident approved – August 23rd, 2010

Second funny looking card arrives – August 31st, 2010
