 But everyone in Brazil rides around on Vespas. It reminds me of that Who movie, Quadrophenia.

If you tape a short piece of garden hose lengthwise on the top of the back of the seat, and ask her to go for a ride, she will change her mind about motorcycles quickly!

Wouldn't be short !!!!

don't go home wearing this t-shirt ... :P

I saw the Tshirt and already bought it. Good thing I kept the receipt

on the DVD groundhogs. There's an extra titled how to get your wife to buy you a motorcycle

Haven't seen the Movie yet, but has just been put on my list, thanks!

Ask your wife to take the initial safety course with you. I am sure that once she meets someone who is a competent rider her concerns may subside a little. Make an agreement that initially you'll only ride on weekends, during day-light hours and only in light traffic. Seems silly, but helping her to subside some of her fears may help you in getting a bike.

I have asked for her to join me at an MSF course and her response was 'No' she is not interested at all. I like the idea of the initial riding, on weekends, light traffic, day light... thanks

Thank you so far to those who have provided a serious response.

Long story short:

I have a full Motorcycle license before even learning how to ride (Don't ask)

So I could if wanted to just go out and buy and start riding with no restrictions

Have my license and many years of riding, many close calls, but when an idiot hit me head on when passing in a no passing zone, and I flew 40 feet before landing, that was it for me. Wife would like me to get another motorcycle and ride with me, still kicking that around, just too many idiots on the road, would feel better driving my motorhome with that big fat steel bumper in the front.

Youngest son on a wooded county road had a turkey fly out that he smashed with his teeth at 60 mph, knocked out about ten teeth, has bridges and also required plastic surgery on his face, plus some body damage when he was knocked off this bike. He is still riding, but also feel his brain was damaged in the process. If you file a claim against the person that hit you, I was okay, leather boots, chaps, leather jacket, leather gloves, and helmet, but took a half an hour to get dressed for just a short ride.

But if you don't wear all that stuff, even though that idiot hit you, can deny or greatly reduce your claim. My interest was further than just riding, was developing electronic ignition modules and electrical systems for these things, quit that too. The good news was my ex divorced me the next day because she didn't think I could support her life style anymore. So if you have that problem, suggest you get a bike, I love my new wife today and want to be around.

My husband and I both ride.

We wear protective clothing and helmets ALWAYS. Yes it sucks when it's hot but not doing so is just plain stupid. My husband used to race motocross and is a way better rider than I am even though I took the class and test in Germany, where it is much more thorough and difficult than here.

Do the safety courses, develop skills in the dirt or on trails and convince her you are a safe rider, that's about all you can do.

I'm concerned too when my husband rides by himself but he needs that to relax and unwind. He's a fast, but very defensive rider, and knowing that helps. Other guys have dangerous hobbies too...

I've been riding since I was 4 and got my first bike from my uncle, much to my mom's displeasure. I have been riding since. I won't lie and say that it has been uneventful, 31 years ago, while still living in So. Cal. I was run off of a mountain road by a jac# @$$ that didn't even stop. I was broken up pretty good, both knees, 1 elbow, collar bone, and enough road rash to, well you get the picture. Since that day, or at least since they let me out of the hospital, I have really changed my riding style. I trust no one! I still ride hard, 185 mph v-twin, and yes my wife rides with me. The current bike is a little uncomfortable for her so I promised that I would invest in a rolling couch this spring aka, a bagger.

My advise to you would be to go to a Harley dealership near you that rents bikes, look on their web site for the closest one that rents. Take her for a nice ride, somewhere scenic, away from the crowds. She will either be hooked or hate it, but you will have an answer. On the trip behave and be very cautious.

No longer in the hands of the USCIS, for my wife at least, next up MIL.
