Finally yesterday I had my interview here in New York City (Federal Plaza). They didn't let me any time earlier before my scheduled time, so I had to wait a little bit outside of the building. When it was time to get in, I found a lot of crowd in the waiting room. they also gave me a warning that interviews could run late up to 2/3 hours. i deposited my interview letter and waited my name to be called. I was kind of concerned viewing many candidates going to their interview with their lawyers! Anyway, I was called after 2 hours by an extremely nice smiling interviewer who had some kind of thick accent though (I have problems with foreign accents in general) and spoke extremely fast. But I managed this fine. So, I took an oath to say the truth and then the interviewer went through most of the questions in the N-400. Everything was alright, except that the interviewer noticed several trips and asked why I have been traveling so much. The reason I have been traveling so much is that I go to see my family very often. No trip was over few weeks (I have a job here in NY!), so it was not an issue at all (only trips over 6 months are not allowed), but too many trips my raise concern about the actual residence in the US. BTW my interviewer checked all the stamps in my passport, and figured out that all the information i gave in the Form were extremely accurate. Another topic of discussion was why i had applied 90 days before the continuous residence requirement was met (i said that this is allowed based on the naturalization guidelines and that i wanted to apply as soon as I was allowed to do so). Then i took my civil test. I was asked who is the speaker of the house, who lived in the US before the Europeans came, how long is the president in charge, what's the name of the first 10 amendments, and another one i don't remember. then i had to read, and write "the people elect the congress". In the end my interviewer proposed me for approval!! :)) yeeeeeh !!! then I waited for the final approval for another 2 hours in the waiting room. In the end I was called by another guy who gave me my oath letter confirming that I had final approval. Overall it was a nice and pleasant experience, but as you can all imagine, there are many applicants here in NY and the wait was very long (about 5 hours overall). Now, I don't want to scary anyone, but my impression was that many people failed their interview! In fact, there were way many more people in the main waiting room waiting for their interview then the people waiting for final approval and oath letter in the back of the room (2 different seatings). A guy told me that his interviewer had failed everybody before him. I think it all depends on the information in each application (each case is different), and how somebody passes the civil test, which is easy buy you have to study few days to pass it. That's it. I hope this info is useful. My oath will occur next week! :)) Thanks for all the info you guys exchanged in the last few months and good luck to all of you that will be interviewed in the next few days!

All done. Had the oath today, then went to the Social Security office to update my record, registered to vote at City Hall, and applied for a passport.

At the oath ceremony, there were 101 people from 40 countries. The invitation said that it would start at 12:30pm and take two hours. They started signing people in at noon, but the actual ceremony didn't start until 1:20pm or so. But by 1:50pm we were all done.

Good luck to all!

I applied based on the 5 years rule. I actually applied 5 years less 90 days. Apparently they are not used to see many people traveling. In fact the form has only 10 lines available to describe the trips. I had to attach another sheet listing many other trips. All my trips were reasonably short, however, too many trips may raise discussions during the interview. they want to make sure you actually resided in the US. btw, i am an Italian too!

Well, my job makes me travel on a monthly basis and also my wife and I try to go to vacation every 3/4 months, before we have kids. However, I've been out of the US for about 150 days in the last 3 years, so I don't think I will have any problem.

hey everyone,

I owe the state some taxes and called the IRS according to the interview checklist ( it says that if you owe any taxes bring a documentation of the current status of a repayment program ) so, the IRS told me that they dont have or give any document like that. they also said I can make payments little by little...

and on the tax forms there is a web site name called www.officialpayments.com/state if i make payments from there and print the confirmation page would that be fine with IO...?

and did you guys have any problem because of the taxes...?

have you guys been asked to show the tax forms especially in Atlanta GA...?

other than that Atlanta does the oath on the same day...if everything goes smooth i will hopefully be a citizens on july 1st...

thanks in advance and have a great day everyone...

karma...

Late post addition, but thought it would be helpful to the group:

1. San Jose, CA filer (anyone else out there in 2009?)

2. "Walk-in" biometric (was not in country on scheduled biometric date, so walked in to the office a week later, no problem, although probably delayed my process)

3. Out of country between naturalization interview and oath ceremony, although not even close to having a measurable amount of time outside of the US (in past 3 years) and still a US resident.

Waiting for my oath appointment -- in San Jose there are no same-day oaths, but the municipal theater the USCIS uses (Campbell theater) publicly posts their calendar and so at any given time, the next 5-6 oath ceremony dates are clearly posted!

Welcome to the FEB group, 85n280 and congratulations on your successful interview. Care to write more about your interview experience, I have many friends in the Bay Area who would love to hear about the experience in San Jose.

Late post addition, but thought it would be helpful to the group:
