I think I'll do the same :(. Not looking forward to writing that check, though. But first things first. I gotta get my VAWA approved first. Don't want to count those chickens before they hatch.

I can't believe it's 15 months and 1 week, not an RFE, not an update on my case since 02-24-2008, not a nada, something is strangely wrong with my case, I was speaking with my attorney, he said he's doing a lot of VAWA cases and most of the clients received RFE within the 10th month of filing, I haven't gotten anything, what are they doing? Are they putting my case at the back of the line or something? This is so ridiculous, I don't even have a touch or a simple update on my case, 15 months, this is crazy, I'm more than 30 days out of the processing time, every week I keep thinking it's going to be my week, and nothing, you try to call them and they never have an answer for you. Let's say I get RFE 2 months down the road, that's like another 4 months of waiting to be approved, I needddddddddddddddddddddd to work #######? I'm so out of patience, I need money, I'm broke, I need a life, I wanna go back to school, I'm just stuck. I can't even renew my driver's license, I can't even get an id, its like I have no identity, I'm playing by the rules and yet I feel so punished. Is it just me or does everyone else feels the same way? What is going on at Vermont, why is everyone else who filed wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy after me getting approved and my file is just sitting some where not even being looked at. I thought they worked on a first come first served basis. I've been waiting patiently until now, this is so unfair. An RFE would make me happy, I swear.

I've just been reading VJ looking for info for my husband's friend who is in an abusive relationship. Maybe the VAWA is what he needs to look into...

After reading here I see that many of you have lawyers. This guy has no money and has barely been able to find work because his wife as been so "on and off" with filing the AOS papers, etc. I know for while his Work Permit was expired because she hadn't finished the AOS process in over a year, or something...

His wife has been giving him so much HELL... she always threatens to call the USCIS and "send him back to Egypt".... She locks him out of the house (he has no key) and calls him on his cell phone to curse at him (which we can all hear)... I don't know if the police have been involved or not.

I would appreciate any advice any of you can share with me to pass on to him. I found a local agency that provides free or low cost services to Immigrants that I will contact. But in the meantime what kind of evidence does he need to have to prove the abuse? If there hasn't been any physical evidence (there might be and I just don't know it... ) In true Middle Eastern style the guy is very quiet about all of this in front of me...(but tells my husband more...) Feeling shame and guilt for talking about a "family matter" to anyone outside the family....

From what I can tell his wife is seriously mentally ill. (Bi-Polar) And she won't take her medication. They were together (boyfriend/girlfriend) travelling the world together, for 5 years before he came to the USA about 18 months ago, so I doubt anyone can say it's not a "valid marriage".

I felt sick when we dropped him off at her home last night.. It looks like a garbage dump on the front porch (he's been trying to protect himself from RATS!!!)... he is miles from a bus stop and has no car. Walks and takes the bus 2.5 hour each way to do a 12 hour job (on his feet)... He looks malnourished to me and has huge bags under his eyes.

Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.

K :crying:

For the past month I have been checking my mailbox twice, sometimes 3 times, a day. My mailbox is located about 2 miles from my place. Last week I made a decision to stop. I just couldn't bear opening an empty mailbox again. I haven't been to the mailbox the whole week. I figured if I was approved, I would get an email first. This morning I went running and the running trail leads past the mailbox place and I opened it and VOILA!

I cried like a baby.

I don't even know where to start. I know I need to get a divorce and start processing my i485. But I need an advance parole FAST.

Lostinnj, you need to write a letter. Stop with the phone calls. Write a letter along these lines:

(But if you suspect that your file is lost, you need to file a FOIA requesting information on your file.)

Dear Sir or Madam:

I filed a VAWA Self-Petition (I-360), which was received on Feb 07 2007 and granted Prima Facie on Feb xx 2007. More than 15 months has elapsed and no determination has been made on this case. I am hereby requesting that your office adjudicate my I-360 as soon as possible.

Thank you for your consideration

Sincerely,

lostnnj

Make sure you send it certified return receipt
