Another interesting thing happens in our lives...

Husband wants to go vacationing. He says to pick between Cancun and China, because he found some good deals. Wife says let me think. However husband meanwhile decides on China because it is a "great deal" and can't let it go. Wife doesn't want to go to China. But husband decides he will still go with his mom. I am fine with that. He has a good job and he has to right to explore the world.

Is "separate vacations" going to ruin our marriage? This is not the first time is doing it. Is he selfish for doing this? What do you guys think?

thanks

As long as separate vacations doesn't mean dipping toes into the forbidden pool, I don't see how it would ruin a marriage. He should send you on a vacation that you want to go on too though. Seems fair.

China is a great country. Who cares what the newspapers, media says about its communism affairs. I've been there. Friendly people! Alot of the citizens in Beijing love their country.

If you goto the rural areas, the villagers are eager to teach you things that you probably wouldn't even know living here in the US. Plus, the Chinese food there is delicious. Alot better than over here in the US! :D Some people eat dogs, well in the remote areas. Don't get discourage. It's their lifestyle.

I don't understand why anyone would want to go to a place like Cancun. I've never been myself -my college spring breaks were usually spent snowboarding out in Utah- but isn't Cancun a place where you hang out and drink Bud Light with a bunch of dipsh!t American kids and try to get your face shown on MTV for mooning a cameraman while never interacting with the locals?

There's like 6,000 miles of coastline in Mexico. Come on, seriously.

Go listen to some free beats:

Most of those dipsh!t American kids are us Texans who can afford to go straight outta Austin baby! Ur right Uncle Wally! :P OP go to China with the Hubby! See the Great Wall! It's once in a lifetime. You can go to Cancun and get sh1tface anytime with college kids. If you want to do Mexico the Baja side is much better IMHO!

You'll get more out of China with as important nation in the the future as well as a great history.

There's a lot more to China than Beijing, Hong Kong or Shanghai. I went to smaller cities and rural areas to see a more traditional view of China. The food isn't what you think as Americanized Chinese food was non-existent at least where I went.

The occational separate vacation certainly shouldn't ruin a marriage.

That being said, I'd rather go to a place that wouldn't be my first pick than not go on vacation with my husband at all.

China sucks. Trust me. I've lived there for 4 years. About the only thing you can do even with a high salary is wander around hooking up with chixx. No sporting events, places to go camping, shooting sports, muscle cars, or any of the kind of things men are interested in (other than women).

It's dirty and polluted (water and air) at an unimagineable level, smells bad, much of the food will make you sick, transportation is crowded and traffic is horrible. The people can be rude as hell, beggars abound, theives are even more common than beggars, and everybody is out to hustle you. Most of the tourist attractions are fakes built after the originals were destroyed in the "cultural revolution" (what a joke), as are most of the junk that you are expected to buy in shops you will be pushed into on your tour.

Most Beijingnese I know would rather live in America. Dog is eaten on every street in every city (Guo ro = dog meat). done it many times in the nicest places and the worst. rant off.

Your husband will be OK if he stays with his mother 24/7 or is completely penniless. If he is alone at night and has $25 in his pocket, he'll be broke by morning, guarranteed. If he goes with me, he will have a really good time and never come back. Chinese women are fab.

As a foreigner to China, I did enjoy it though. It's a matter of perspective. I enjoyed visiting the historical sites because of the significance that the Chinese Civilization outlasted most, if not all other ancient civilization. Today, it still holds many of those thounsand year traditions.

Wow, what a jerk you are Mr Shooter. I especially find this comment jerky - 'or any kind of things men are interested in (other than women).' Your brain must be the size of an amoeba.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

trouble is that china doesn't hold many of the old traditions. they were ruthlessly purged 40 years ago. they were purged 4 times in the 20th century, and little remains but polite greed under the surface.

AJ, they got gamey males there, too. I could introduce you to several i know that would definitely be game. trouble is, chinese men are generally effeminate by American standards, so telling the difference can be tricky.
