That doesn't really have much to with how the general public perceives Obama, or that the reservations of some politicians or bloggers have much bearing on what everyone else thinks. A lot of these O/T threads convey the bizarre impression that Liberals and Conservatives are some sort of cardboard cut-out cartoon characters. Strange.

This whole "messiah" idea is laughable - I never saw Obama as being some magic solution to the country's problems, I just thought he was better than the tired old man (and sidekick) who ran against him. If Obama has gained public support I suspect its largely because the current Republican administration is perceived to "own" the current state of the country and its economy.

That's one of the drawbacks of being President - you're the one held accountable for everything.

Yep. The ole dammed if you do, dammed if you don't ploy that frankly, very little folks are falling for. To be honest, if anyone is unhappy right now, its the wingnuts that are rarely happy with much of anything in life anyway. Much less having someone that appears, from campaign on through not having taken office yet, to be more interested in solving problems via bipartisanship rather than imposing an agenda that may not be ready for a national stage anyway.

Screeching about cabinet appointments at this point is pretty ridiculous given that the guy hasn't taken office yet - and we really have little idea as to what policy initiatives they'll be pushing forward.

Of course there are a few people holding out hope that the unthinkable will happen and Obama will be passed over for the Presidency on the basis that he's not a natural born US citizen.
