STUCK @ NVC for AP

Does the NVC actually notify you when your case completes AP? I was told I would be notified via email.

So were we, but it never came. We found out by ringing them, every day.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

Yeah, we were also promised email notification. Never happened. NVC was able to send out four (4) letters at the start of our AP saying our file would be forwarded to the Embassy within a week (which clearly it was not). And they promised an email to tell us when our AP would end (which was never sent).

In short: communication from NVC cannot be taken at face value. You can be certain your file is actually at the Consulate when you get a Packet 3 or are otherwise contacted by the Consulate. Even when NVC told us by phone that we were released I was still waiting to get the Packet3 before I felt certain we had cleared that hurdle.

I'm curious about something. Even though you are put on AP at NVC for a K visa, do they still give you a case number? i.e. BNK2009xxxxxx?

Yes, you're assigned the case number as soon as your file is logged in at the NVC, whether it is in AP or not.

I was promised every time I called the NVC (about 20 times over 50 days) that I would be notified when my case was sent on to the consulate. Of course I never received any notification. You must call to find out when your case has moved on.

By the way ... Bing has been here almost 4 weeks and is doing great!

Question to everyone on this thread: When you found out you're in AP@NVC, what exact words did they use - "Administrative Processing" or "Additional Processing"? The reason I'm asking is that there seems to be a difference between the two confirmed by both NVC reps and attorney I spoke with.

It's definitely the same thing.

As for the letters, as much as I remember, we also never received any letter/email/anything saying a word about AP being completed. Even though they, of course, promised to do so. We did, however, get a letter saying nice things about the case being forwarded to the Embassy before we even knew about AP.

As for the news - I'll be flying next Saturday. Still haven't packed and don't know where to start.

To those of you who engaged Congressman's office... How did they proceed on helping you? I tried to involve them and all they did is call some "congressman liaison" at NVC which told them exact same thing as they're telling me - they case is under additional processing and there is no timeline. I mean, come on! They even don't care to explain anything to the congressman's office? I think people have been relying on them too much so any Congressman is just a commodity to them now... Should I call Mr. President then?

They don't explain themselves to congressmen because they haven't got to. I see by your timeline you have been in AP for just over two weeks, so I am suprised a congressman would call NVC at this stage.

I know it's frustrating, but really all there is to do is wait it out. In the meantime you can go ahead and make sure you have everything you need paperwork wise for the next step.

The other thing to note is that times are coming way down for K1's in AP.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

 Just heard from the NVC that we're out of AP and our file has been sent to the consulate! "Only" 23 days later...

Finally, we are starting to feel like things are coming to a close and we can start living our lives together!

I hope everyone who is still stuck in AP gets their "good news" soon!
