Will a new government have an effect on the K-1 process?

I'm curious what people think about this. A friend of mine seems to think that come January, all of these seriously delayed visa applications will speed up quite a bit. I'm somewhat doubtful. What do people out there think?

There was big backlog long before Obama came on the scene and Obama's aunt being deported may be the only immigration news related to Obama for some time to come.

It won't change right away, though maybe in a few years it could...

The people actually pushing the papers around are civil service employees, not political appointees. The new administration won't replace the staffers at the various service centers.

There WILL be a new Director of Homeland Security. That person might be able to shuffle around some of the priorities about which kinds of petitions should get priority and which should be place on the back burner, but absent a huge funding change, I'd expect the changes to be minor.

In the longer term future, there may be a somewhat comprehensive immigration reform. It'll happen when the people get angry enough with Congress, and when Congress has somewhat of a consensus as to what kind of change will make things better. Whether it will touch on the K visa process, or funding levels, or petition processing time, is anybody's guess.

If there is any kind of program that would cause a sudden huge increase in petition filings (such as an amnesty program for those currently here illegally), it could cause a deluge of paperwork that would slow down the entire system for awhile.

I think that they will do away with the immigration system. Since all the illlegals will be given citizenship, just elimninate the visa process and open up the borders. You want a fiance, buy them a plane ticket. No fuss, no hassle.
