Hi everyone,

We just got Case Complete from NVC on Sept 16 (wahoo!!). I had to call in to get that information, but the person I spoke to wouldn't give me much information about next steps. I believe we just have to wait for the interview appointment letter? Will we get any communication about when they send our file to Nairobi?

My husband is in Uganda. How long did it take you all to get an interview scheduled in Nairobi from the time your case was completed? And is there anything we can do in the meantime to get things ready?

Any tips are much appreciated!

Hello

Did you go to the Embassy site and look at Packet Three? I believe you have to complete DS-230. I think its different for the K1

http://nairobi.usembassy.gov/immigrant_visas/visa-packets.html

Then I imagine the Embassy will be in touch

You cannot email the I-134. It has to have your original signature, unless things has changed at the Consulate and one can is allowed to show a copy of the I-134.

No a hard copy is required with signature and date.

Express Mail by USPS takes about a week to get there with tracking. Has to be sent to your fiancee

Hello VJ's,

My interview date is scheduled on the 28th Oct 2014

I'm waiting for IOM to schedule my medical exams.

So many things to worry about that trip.

i am still looking for accommodation, as all this process might take two weeks, hotel cost a fortune$$.

If someone has experienced and know a nice and secure place not far from the embassy please send me the address because the longer i wait the more expensive it will get.

Will appreciate if someone can help!!!

Hello, these appointments are early it seems. I dont know any place near the Embassy but there is a place in CBD called Hotel Kilepeo which is safe and inexpensive (Kshs 6000 a night). The Hilton has a rate of Kshs 8000 a night, however if your medical and appointment are on different days which they are it can get expensive

The IOM ask for an Appointment letter from the Embassy with the Case Number. If its a Fiancee Visa, then the appointment is made through the payment website and they only send you an email, so not sure what IOM is talking about

Yes! My husband has an interview scheduled for November 19 and medical exam on Nov 13-14! Anyone else?

Also, for anyone from Uganda, the Nairobi embassy says the police certificate from Kampala is valid as long as it was obtained less than 1 year ago, but the certificate clearly states that it is only good for 6 months and will expire about 2 weeks before the interview. I'm thinking that my husband should just get a new one to be safe, but can anyone else comment on this? (He is not in Kampala, so it would be be much easier if we could just use the one sent to NVC.)

  • The police Certificate has to be current. I doubt they will accept an expired one. You still have time to get another one.

My fiancé had an interview. The process is very smooth. Confidence and look straight in the CO's eyes and answer the questions. They will ask him several but all from the I-129f packet you sent. I am assuming you front loaded the application with dates of meeting, letters from friends/family/relatives? Photos (nothing excessive). They are used to the bullsxxt of Kenyans trying to magendo their way into a B2 visa, so they know BS when they hear it.

I am sure all will be good.

Thanks David. Yes we sent in a bunch of evidence in the I-130 petition and included pictures, letters, email records, proof that we rented a house together, wedding party photos, etc. I agree that we should get a new police certificate.

I'm also glad to hear that it was a smooth interview process for you. My husband has been getting nervous about it, so I'm trying to give him all the information he might need. It sounds like he should just make sure he is really familiar with the information we already sent in? I'll pass your tips along! We both can't believe that we are finally at this stage in the process. Almost there!

That's great. Front loading the petition helps because the Embassy personnel have access to everything then rather than giving them the information at the interview. However, the following are mandatory at the interview from our experience

  • The affidavit of support
  • The Health Exam documents (if they were given to your husband)
  • Valid Police Certificate from where he is from (Kenya/Uganda)
  • Any evidence you have of a continuing relationship...chat logs, phone calls, more visits etc

Hope this helps. Inbox me if you have anything else you need.

I can't believe I'm just putting this together now, but will my husband need another ORIGINAL I-864 Affidavit of Support (plus original for joint sponsor) at the interview if we already sent an original to NVC? I have been assuming that he will only have to bring photocopies since they should already have the originals... Help!

No idea. Is there enough time? You could email the embassy at the Immigrant Visa Unit and ask them? They usually get back to you the next working day. If you send it via Express or DHL will it get there in time should they need another original?

What if they ask for the original at the interview? Then they might give him a 221(g) and ask him to send it via mail or bring it in personally? I imagine that will be hard on him

I spoke with 2 different reps last week at NVC and both of them said they prepare the packet for the Embassy and that if you submitted originals to them they will be forwarded to the Embassy in Nairobi. This was a concern I had to after looking on the Embassy Info here on VJ concerning packet 3. But I was assured that all my originals would be forwarded. So I told my husband that I will be sending him an exact copy of everything that I have submitted so far that way he can study it thoroughly in time for his interview. I hope that this is right. Also I email the embassy as well and they also told me that all original docs will be forwarded by NVC, so I will be printing this email just in case the story changes. Its ridiculous if they will require another set of originals of the docs that they already have and will return.

Thanks Kolewenoiki31. I'm glad to hear that NVC agrees. I have settled on the fact that if NVC can get my husband's birth certificate to Nairobi, then they will get the original I-864 there. My husband will be bringing all of the required documents, a new police certificate (since his expired), copies of all of the forms we already submitted, and a bunch of updated evidence of our relationship. I think at a certain point we need to trust in the system. It wouldn't make sense if we needed 2 separate "originals". I also sent him answers to the example interview questions from VJ so he can be as prepared as possible.

It's November 1st, so our interview is officially this month!! Hopefully we'll be spending Christmas together for the first time in 2 years!
