I am sure the rest of the world agrees, despite what the alarmists would have you think. Some people actually like their home countries, some even think their home countries are 'better' (shock horror, how can this be?) than America!

Not in ####### countries. Not many people in the third world would say 'no' if offered a green card.

You'd think that...but most people are actually rather smitten with their own culture - what they want is the trappings of capitalism not to pack up and leave - you actually have to talk to them to know this though :)

that's the problem with unlimited immigration. people do not acclimate even with the currently limited immigration

However, believing that everyone else 'envies' the USA is one of those truisms that are used to create that useful emotion OUTRAGE.

Ok, politics 101 is over, move along, nothing to see...

Exactly. Many of them come here looking for jobs, and leave their family behind just to survive.

Since we invite 1.2 million immigrants annually.

USCIS let's in 50,000 with the lottery, and for the past four years, has average about 140,000 I-751 applications per year, also limits on work visa's, but those are temporary, so exactly how are you coming up with 1.2 million? Now, illegals, that is a far different story, even though I do not have the slightest idea how they count them. But tend to believe 20 million more than 11 million.

Emilio stated before congress, over 3 million applications last year for citizenship causing a tie up due to the rate increase, that number was corrected to 600, 000, just a slight exaggeration.

Some odd 33 million people do depend on the Colorado River for water and already have been hurting if the the mountains do not get that winter snow.

Watched that movie, Idiocracy, suppose to be funny, but took it far more serious than that, my college educated kids are limiting their family size to two, but dad, costing us a fortune to send our kids to private schools, the public schools are worthless. While dirt poor people are having one kid after the other

Ha, jobs Americans do not want to do, like a local meat packing company getting rid of 18 buck an hour American employees and hiring all illegals for five bucks an hour, no benefits, no health insurance, if an illegal cuts off his hand, is fired on the spot, leaving the medical expense to the burden of the taxpayers, claim this is keeping the price of meat low, but sure not seeing that at the grocery store, meat prices are skyrocketing. Should say, profits are skyrocketing instead, but instead we get lies from our government.

Do not understand the 14th amendment either as to why illegals can come here, have kids and are USC's. Looking for corruption? Look at Washington D.C.

Because our nation was founded on immigrants. What would happen if we essentially let everyone who wanted to become a USC, provided they meet the requirements, become one? Nothing....except that this country continues on it's tradition of a nation of immigrants. We'll never be an isolated country. Never have, never will...and to be scared by that - that's also a tradition. Once immigrants settle and the second generation starts complaining about the new people in town. Xenophobia is a human condition.

A whole lot of people would lose their jobs........Surely all the visa paperwork must keep millions employed!

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

http://www.susps.org/overview/numbers.html

I believe the illegal aliens are figured into the graph, but I'm not sure. In any case, the numbers are way too high and are not sustainable without huge negative environmental, social, and economic consequences.

While I'm not against reasonable reduced levels of legal immigration, the current numbers are insane as well as the defacto open border policy the pricks in Washington DC have imposed on the American people. The self serving policies of cheap Dim votes and Republicrat cheap labor will eventually come to roost (as if it hasn't already). US immigration policy (or lack of it) in recent years is just one of the many excesses to go along with all the other excesses like the current financial debacle. The chickens eventually come to roost when all reason is thrown out the window. And all reason has been thrown out the window for too long.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

What if the US opened its borders to unlimited immigration?

By Frosty Wooldridge

What if the U.S. opened its borders to unlimited immigration? What if Colorado added another five to ten million or even 20 million people?

Let’s face it, California, at one point, housed a mere five million like Colorado. Today, that state features 37.5 million on its way to 60 million. At one point, citizens did not suffer gridlocked traffic, water shortages or air pollution. In the early years, neither did Colorado. The same goes for all cities of the United States.

But, at some point, population growth raced out of control across this great land. At this moment, 150 million Americans feel the pinch, the unease of their predicament and the symptoms of their dilemma. You’ll feel it more when gas hits $9.00 a gallon as in Europe.

Since we invite 1.2 million immigrants annually and another 1.1 million illegal migrants into this country annually—what’s the big deal about allowing five or 10 million annually?

If you study international demographics, you know that 82 million people add themselves, net gain to the planet, every year. (Source: www.populationmedia.org and www.worldpopulationbalance.org and www.balance.org )

To put things into perspective, one-third of them cannot find a clean glass of drinking water daily. Out of that 82 million, 18 million starve to death or die of starvation related diseases annually. (Source: World Health Organization) At least two billion humans live on less than $3.00 a day for food.

Thus, if we opened our borders to save humanity from its horrible fate, an immediate 18 million starving souls could find food and shelter in the USA annually. However, after a mere five years, that equals 90 million added to our country. In 10 years, that equals 180 million people and in 20 years…well, you get the picture. If you think Colorado suffers water shortages, air pollution and gridlock today, you ain’t seen nothing yet!

William N. Ryerson, director of www.populationmedia.org, said, “I have read with interest the various perspectives presented in the debate on U.S. immigration policy. I pose the following question to anyone who thinks “border control” efforts will not accomplish anything: If the U.S. had no border control (or policing at airports, etc.) what would happen to the number of good people entering this country from the far corners of the world?

“There is no doubt that if there were absolutely no barriers or restrictions at our borders, this great nation would be flooded — overwhelmed — inundated — by MILLIONS of well-meaning, hard-working, honest “tired and poor” people within a matter of months.

“It’s hard to know the number who would move to the U.S. if our borders were opened, but surveys in many countries show significant numbers who would like to live in the U.S. If the borders were opened, perhaps 3 billion people would find their way here in a short period of time - ten times the current population of the U.S. The infrastructure would collapse, our water supply (and food supply) would be exhausted, people would be sleeping in the streets, energy would be at a premium, in short, chaos would be the new norm.

“At current rates of growth, in just 15 years the U.S. population will grow by the equivalent of a new Los Angeles, plus New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia, Baltimore, San Francisco, Indianapolis, San Jose, Memphis, Washington, Jacksonville, Milwaukee, Boston, Columbus, New Orleans, Cleveland, Denver, Seattle, and El Paso. All of these to be added in just 15 years! We have heard a lot about the cost of rebuilding New Orleans. The cost of developing all the new infrastructure that will be required in the next 15 years will be huge - and perhaps not achievable. If we opened our borders, the reality would be much worse.”

Therefore, if you enjoyed the power of the U.S. presidency or controlled the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, what would you do? Open our borders to unlimited immigration—knowing your children could not survive in the long term? Or, would you be smarter, more logical and take actions in order to build a sustainable, long term U.S. sustainable civilization?

Within 30 years, we expect 100 million added to this country at our current level of legal and illegal immigration. Do you want that result for your children? What will they tell you in 30 years if that 100 million comes to pass?

I can tell you this: if we allow our country to remain an open border– your life, your children and this society don’t stand a chance in the 21st century. Everything will degrade to enormous and irreversible population travesties. What do you think about that for future generations? How do you think Colorado might do with an added 20 million people?

“Hey buddy, can you find me a glass of water while I’m stuck in traffic while I breathe this toxic air on my way to the ski resort where I get to ski with 20 million others?”

I'm glad I noticed the name of the author before I started reading the article. I stopped right there since I don't read anything that lunatic, Frosty, writes. As mentioned before, he thinks that immigrants are nothing but trash. Specially Mexican immigrants. To him, we, Mexicans, are nothing but "invaders".
