Do you order foods from your homeland for comfort??

dang...who said Lebkucken?...when's Christmas...? *sigh*

see this is what happens when you're the product of an immigrant who is also the product of an immigrant and you've lived in several multi-cultural neighbourhoods! You end up liking too many foods from too many different countries, and then you move somewhere they're not readily available! hmph...

With the price of gas lately, I could probably order from the interenet shops cheaper than it would cost me to drive up to World Market in Asheville to get stuff. I think last time I ordered it cost me just slightly more than $30 for shipping. A tank of gas to go back and forth to Asheville would cost me more than $40, adn I'd have to fill up again so I could get to work for the week. Plus the $100 or so dollars I'd end up spending on junk food ;)

Plus, there's not enough gas here in North Carolina for me to fill up twice. Unless I want to get in a fight for it :P:wacko:

I did see ONE Ritter Sport in CVS the other day though. I was a hazel nut one, I don't like hazel nut. And they didn't have any other flavours. *sigh*

I just finished off a big plate of Curry Chips.. OMG were they ever good and I had 10 potato croquettes for lunch. Rashers for b'fast tomorrow. I'll probably gain a few pounds this week, not exactly healthy eating but tastes so good. Why is it that all the not healthy food tastes so good???

if we're talking German Christmas stuff, I want a PROPER Stollen, like my friend's mum makes, and some Dominosteine... thankfully, I know my own mother will send me the latter; she gets them from the German butchery near home, in Sydney ;)

no one does Christmas like the Germans :)

I was back there last December, and I'd forgotten how very very excellent it is... I need to go and spend some serious time there again :)

Dave is happy to learn German, so I might teach him, and then we'll see what happens in a year or two when we feel like living somewhere else... ;)

The Very Secret Diary of Legolas Son of Weenus - by Cassandra Claire

Day One: Went to Council of Elrond. Was prettiest person there. Agreed to follow some tiny little man to Mordor to throw ring into volcano. Very important mission - gold ring so tacky.

Day Six: Far too dark in Mines of Moria to brush hair properly. Am very afraid I am developing a tangle.

Orcs so silly.

Still the prettiest.

Day 35: Boromir dead. Very messy death, most unnecessary. Did get kissed by Aragorn as he expired. Does a guy have to get shot full of arrows around here to get any action? Boromir definitely not prettier than me. Cannot understand it. Am feeling a pout coming on.

Frodo off to Mordor with Sam. Tiny little men caring about each other, rather cute really.

Am quite sure Gimli fancies me. So unfair. He is waist height, so can see advantages there, but chunky braids and big helmet most off-putting. Foresee dark times ahead, very dark times.

Oh digestives sound sooo good, I'll have to get them next time round. And Liga, my all time favourite :)

Yes, foodireland.com is where I ordered from

I am bringing in my lugage when we fly over:

- Lyons Tea and Lady Grey.

- McVitie's Dark chocolate covered Digestives.

- Bisto gravy granules.

Already arranged a swap with an Irish friend whereby he'll send me supplies of the above and I'll send back peanutbutter chocolate stuff

- Green&Black's Coco powder.

- SMA follow-on milk and Liga rusk for the twins.

- Herbamare herbal salt

- Assorted Swiss chocolates (dark and coffee)

- Ricola herbal sweets.

I am assuming you know http://www.foodireland.com/

I just looked at that link!... god.. REAL bacon!!!.. if I wasn't living in the oven I'd order some! I really miss real food!.. The food here is alright but it's hard to beat a good fry!

We have 2 international stores in our area we regularly visit. We tend to eat food cooked in the Jamaican tradition almost every single night. He's a good cook and the foods are relatively healthy. Not complaining.

They do tend to be a little more expensive then if I just went to the grocery store. But, since we make the trip to the local farmer's market for a good chunk of it, the costs are offset.

I would not order over the internet. The shippings costs are too much for my tastes.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

Though my husband is not an Indian but he loves Indian sweets and food in general. He usually orders from this site to get his dose of Indian food.

I don't think I will have much problem once I immigrate to his city, they do have Indian grocery stores and there are times when I instruct him how to make something and he gets the exact spices from that store.

Mmmm not sure though if they get cadbury chocolates in that store or not, I might have to ask my husband to check into that :P

Well, you aren't likely to find any in your local grocery store in South Carolina. Probably have to order it from an internet store.

I made stollen at Christmas last year. It wasn't bad, if I do say so myself :D

For Indian treats I used this site to get some things for a class project when I was in the UK - they are also available in the US :D

Ooh, just noticed several sites including this one http://www.britishdelights.com/ sell Hp Sauce!!!!! Wow, how I miss it!

Pataks Curry Paste too! I'll be in heaven!

All I need now is to find somewhere local that sells proper bread, (i.e. without corn syrup), and decent Danish bacon instead of the streaky stuff here and you'll have to winch my out of the house... :)

here's the shop I ordered from a couple of times http://www.thebritishpantry.us/ They've got yummy Irish bacon, and English pork sausages, and Devon cream and scones. And yes, they have Wheetabix, but at $12.50, I think that's a bit extravagant, if I can find them in my local grocery store for about $4 or $5 or so!

The Irish bacon is cheaper than to have Real Canadian Bacon shipped :(
