On my way to Barranquilla, my flight out of LAX to Dallas/Ft.Worth was 2 hrs. late, causing me to spend 22 hours in Miami - at MIA International (love the name).

Good thing the airport has its very own hotel located in the American Airlines terminal.

:dance: I used my flight insurance to pay most of the $175 room charge, and I slept 16 hrs.:thumbs:

Anyone else with similar stories?

I once spent 20-something hours on a plastic chair in Dhaka airport which is where I arrived from Kolkata, to catch a connection to Brussels which was running (very) late. I sneaked in to the air conditioned VIP lounge but got kicked out after about 10 minutes.

AJ, were you an extra in this video? It was filmed at that airport.HAHAHAHA!!!:rofl:

I spent 16 hours in SeaTac waiting for a late flight to Anchorage. I was exhausted.

Yeah it sucks.

Actually, I once spent 4 hours in a small aircraft on the tarmac waiting for liftoff at La Guardia... that felt like spending 20 hours in the airport. Actually it felt worse.

Ugh - waiting on the plane is soooooo the worst. I wanna squeeze out through the window when that happens.

And that's why when I was traveling back and forth between Jersey and southern Ontario (to see my wife, then fiancee), I usually drove, however long it took. I did fly a few times though, and those flights to Detroit were pretty uneventful. The Ambassador Bridge was another story. Different thread.

3 out of the 5 times I have gone to Jordan I have been delayed 24 hours, but luckily I always scored a free hotel room from the airline. I got layed over the last time in the Hyatt in Chicago... and there were toenail clippings by the bed. In Detroit I got a manicure/pedicure in the airport and was put up at some other hotel.. ordered a pizza... and had the pizza guy ask if I needed "relaxing" after he found out I was delayed for my wedding at that point... because that's classy. I declined of course.

None of my posts have ever been helpful. Be forewarned.

I spent nearly 24 hours in Incheon Airport in Korea, trying to get some sleep in 2 chairs. My original flight to Chicago was delayed, causing me to miss my flight to Korea. The next day's flight from Chicago to Korea was oversold, so I wound up flying to New York Kennedy, flying from there to Incheon, then waiting all day (nearly a full 24 hours) for the next flight to Hanoi. The free sleeping/napping areas were being remodeled, so they were unavailable. Bummer.

How about unintended layovers at the STARTING point (I have two of these):

  • Atlanta-Philly trip (Thursday night), takeoff delayed 10 hours due to storms. Boarding call occured when I was just about to give up and go home (at that time Marietta, GA)--by then 2:00 am Friday, arrived in Philly @ 3:30 am
  • return to Atlanta two days later, flight delayed eight hours--due to storms!
In hindsight, I probably would have been best-off actually "following gut" (and going home) in that case.

I spent 16 hours in SeaTac waiting for a late flight to Anchorage. I was exhausted.

I can top that. How about being boarded twice into the aircraft, wait 1 hour, then go back into the terminal--TWICE (this actually happened to me at Heathrow--and NOT on different flights)--before airline finally recognises responsibility and takes to hotel? Edited by CherryXS
