I have read this before in one of the profiles of a member here in VJ but I cannot find it anymore. I just would like to know how many kilograms are allowable when one fly to US? Is it 35 kgs or 60 kgs? Does it vary to all company airlines flying to US? Is it true that there is additional pay for every luggage bag of a passenger?

I flew thru PAL in April this year & the allowable baggage limit was 64 kilograms. You can check-in 2 luggages each with 32 kilos max. Aside from that you can also bring a small backpack with you, purse, and one sweater or coat...

Girl do I feel your pain... I suggest to call your arline directly and find out what is allowable from them. Also remember that baggage allowance for international flights and domestic ones are different. Thus you might be allowed more from the Phillipines to the USA, but less if you have to make a connection flight in the States. Best of luck with packing!!!

Alienlovechild HAPPY TRIP!!!

Most of the airlines like NW, PAL, BR, CI, AA allows 2pcs of check in luggage with 50lbs each. Before they allow 70lbs each but since gas going higher everyday they change it to 50lbs each. Allows u a caryy-on for 7kls.

Hope this will help you!!!

Take care!!!

I flew with Air France and was allowed up to 23kg per case (max two cases per person) with no charge or I could pay extra for up to 32kg per case. I was allowed 6kg hand luggage and like people say, you can stuff this with anything you can't get in your cases. I had my other half with me as well so we had four cases between us, mainly filled with my things - that helped a whole lot.

Anything you can bear to leave behind you can always pick up on visits back to your family :)

your best bet is to contact the airline or check their website. With the ever rising price of oil, many airlines have been changing their baggage allowance.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

DEFINITELY check the airline; they're all different... and yes, a good point made earlier - domestic and international are different (domestic is always lower), so don't get stung... of course, you could look into their limits too, and it might not be a big deal; I was allowed 32kg with QANTAS, but less with the domestic; however, the over-limit charge was all of $20, which I was QUITE happy to pay, given the circumstances :)

The Very Secret Diary of Legolas Son of Weenus - by Cassandra Claire

Day One: Went to Council of Elrond. Was prettiest person there. Agreed to follow some tiny little man to Mordor to throw ring into volcano. Very important mission - gold ring so tacky.

Day Six: Far too dark in Mines of Moria to brush hair properly. Am very afraid I am developing a tangle.

Orcs so silly.

Still the prettiest.

Day 35: Boromir dead. Very messy death, most unnecessary. Did get kissed by Aragorn as he expired. Does a guy have to get shot full of arrows around here to get any action? Boromir definitely not prettier than me. Cannot understand it. Am feeling a pout coming on.

Frodo off to Mordor with Sam. Tiny little men caring about each other, rather cute really.

Am quite sure Gimli fancies me. So unfair. He is waist height, so can see advantages there, but chunky braids and big helmet most off-putting. Foresee dark times ahead, very dark times.

It shouldn't matter how much your luggage weighs on connecting flights in the states; as long as it meets the requirement of the initial check in. They can't go pull it off the tarmac to weigh it again. On my flight back from Australia I flew American Airlines but it was operated by Qantas. So Qantas restrictions applied.

Did Qantas by chance give you all of your boarding passes initially? Where did they charge you the $20 - when checking bags in Oz??

Mine was overweight (domestically) but I guess I had been given all boarding passes and so I never had any problems and was never charged extra. I came straight through LA - went through customs and handed my bags back to security to have them forwarded to the appropriate flight. I never had to go to another counter to get another ticket or anything like that.

I flew NorthWestern, Gatwick through Detroit and I was allowed 23kg per bag.....i had to pay excess on one bag.

But I also agree with the suggestion that you call the airline and check because all are different.

Safe trip!

no, QANTAS couldn't give us all our boarding passes because we had to change terminals in LA... we were changing to a SouthWest flight and they told us quite specifically in Sydney that they couldn't check us all the way through... I was charged the $20 when checking in at the SouthWest terminal in LA :)

I'm not saying that will DEFINITELY happen to anyone else; of course it depends on circumstances... I'm just advising the OP to find out ahead of time :)

That's too bad - we already pay an arm and a leg for these flights it'd be nice if they'd give us a break. My flight was direct to LA from Brisbane.. I'll have to have Liam beg to get all of his boarding passes. :)

Which airline are you flying? I would suggest you contact the airline and get the baggage allowance sorted out.

I flew Delta Airlines and I was allowed to check in 2 bags (not more than 23 kgs each) for free. However, I checked in a 3rd piece weighing 32kgs and paid USD140. I was also told that if my first and second piece weigh more than 23kgs each, I will have to pay about USD20 for each.

My destination was Charlotte but I had my connections in Seoul and Atlanta. I made all my payments at the departing airport (Malaysia) and they issued me all my boarding passes there. I claimed my bags in Atlanta for customs purpose and sent them all for connecting flight after inspection.

Also I would like to advice that you write the airline that you're flying and then print out their replies and take with you to the airport on your departure just in case they give you a different answer :)

Cheers and good luck! :star:
