My wife lived in UAE for several years, and that is where I visited her. It is actually a very nice place, although incredibly hot for a Washingtonian who wears shorts when it hits 60 degree's!

There is definately a lot of wealth in that country. And the people were quite nice to me which was a bit of a suprise given the Iraq situation.

good to see our oil money being put to good use.

Dubai is one of the cities that is trying to make itself into a financial/business center and even a tourist destination. So that once oil produciton wanes it will still prosper.

Plus its been on historical trade routes for centuries. Oil is a relatively short-lived venture.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Not really Americans are told the oil wont last but I met with members of royal family and other oile people they laughed at what Americans are told. They say the oil will last over 100 years more even if demand doubled or tripled.

I guess I'm just not all that interested in going on vacation to a place filled with skyscrapers, glass and steel...

Has anyone traveled to the UAE? I was there for a week and was amazed. There is so much money there you would not believe it. They are building a city twice the size of Hong Kong all brand new in only a few years.

I am flying through Abu Dhabi on Sunday - wish I had a little more time to explore. The airport should be interesting though - I've heard they have a good duty free shop.

And there is no income tax in UAE.
