I saw it on CNN the other night... It completely freaked my wife out... :huh: Different strokes for different folks. However, their culture seems pretty conservative to me so this custom really throws me for a loop. :unsure:

2011 March 31 - Sent off Naturalization pkg overnight to Texas

2011 April 1 - Arrived in Texas at 10:21 am

2011 April 1 - NOA (rec'd via snail mail April 8)

2011 April 7 - Cheque cashed

2011 May 5 - Biometrics (letter rec'd via snail mail April 15)

2011 May 9 - Placed in line for interview scheduling

2011 June 13 - Rec'd yellow letter (no change in status online)

2011 June 23 - Rec'd text that my case has been scheduled for interview

2011 August 1 - Interview (rec'd via snail mail June 27) PASSED

2011 August 3 - Rec'd email that my case has been scheduled for Oath

2011 September 1 - Oath ceremony (rec'd snail mail Aug 5)

Why do people fall for this type of thing? It's rather twisted, IMHO.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

My first reaction is horror, but then I think about how people were horrified that I would hang my daughter upside down briefly. And people were horrified that I don't put three pairs of leggings on her when it is 75 degrees outside. And people are horrified that I let strangers hold her. And people are horrified that I clean her pacifier by sticking it in my mouth when I don't have water available or the only water is from a public faucet here.

I guess I shouldn't judge. It looks a bit traumatic, and I was first concerned about the baby's necks twisting, etc., but the babies look to be the age they are when we throw them up in the air where I'm from. I guess it is one of those things. It is 5 floors high, though. That seems a bit too risky for my comfort.

Neither my wife nor I had ever even heard of this till it was featured on cnn.com a few days ago. I mentioned it to a few Indian friends, same thing - no one I know had heard of it till recently.

But I have heard of other strange stuff. From the shocking to the hilarious. They tended to be covered in Indian vernacular newspapers - the best reading on earth. The craziest, most fukced up, true stories. Way better than a grocery tabloid because it's all true!

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.
