So while i was at the Van Consulate i met 2 people who both were gravely misinformed. The one girl had a b/f in the US who she would visit all the time. She quits her job sells her condo and her and her baby are crossing the boarder to go live with the b/f and boom she gets pulled into secondary fingerprints mugshot ect. Denied entry. She comes to the consualte to "get her K-1 Visa" cuz well she said her b/f cant come here cuz he has a DUI but yeah they " are planning on getting married ...some time ..but if they have to in 90 days they will ....."

She thought she could go to the window get the K visa and be on her merry way..............

Wow. I'd venture to say there were way more than two people who were misinformed. I mean, she had time to sell her condo and pack up, etc. You'd think that, somewhere along the way, at least one person in their lives would have said "Don't you need permission from the US to immigrate?"

I know what you mean.

I'm always astounded when I read postings with language like 'who knew things would be this complicated' or 'why does the government try to dictate who we love'.

About ten minutes after I realized I was in love with a foreign born man, I knew we had a 'relationship' problem. And it didn't just involve how to pay for 'staying in touch' or missing each other.

what does DUI have to do with the K1 visa???

I believe it's relevant in this case b/c the petitioner couldn't accompany the fiance to the interview in Canada. I'm under the impression that Canada won't let you in if you have a DUI or drug charges. He can still petition, but he can't be at the interview.

That's correct, right?

Summer 2001--we met in Manzanillo, Mexico

10/02--129F submitted (We had 1 RFE)

7/03--Interview in Ciudad Juarez

2/15/04--Married

4/2/04--AOS submitted

8/23/04--Interview in Chula Vista, CA (approved pending name check)

5 EADs, 3 APs, multiple Senators' inquiries and infopass appts, 2 AOS biometrics,

and one move to Seattle later...

3/3/08--AOS Biometrics renewal in Seattle

6/9/08--10 year green card arrived in the mail. My husband is no longer in immigration limbo and is a realio, trulio permanent resident! It says he's been a resident since 04/17/2008.

1/17/11--Apply for Citizenship

Yes, that's correct. Canada won't let you if you have DUI or drug convictions. But I took it to mean that her boyfriend wasn't allowed to move to Canada so that's why she was moving to the US. Sounds like quite a couple.

You are reading my mind today. I've been reading some things people have said and thinking, Get a Clue!

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip
