  1. 1. Should the Oath of Allegiance be a blood oath?

    • Hell yeah, the oath should be signed in blood to seal the commitment

    • No, it is no longer possible to expect a lifelong commitment from naturalized citizens

It's possible to be loyal to two nations.

It is. But when the two nations go to war, you have to pick a side, whether you like it or not.

Yeah, I thought of that. I guess in a way you don't have to pick a side, unless there's a draft.

I do not think that the Oath of Allegiance should be a blood oath, though I do believe that people should mean it when they say it. I don't like the idea of people becoming U.S. citizens only for the passport.

I also am in favor of dual citizenship and hope that my husband applies for U.S. citizenship when the time comes. Also, I wouldn't want to ask him to give up his Brazilian citizenship, and am almost certain that he would not.

If I could get Brazilian citizenship then I would - and I hope that our children are citizens of our countries.

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

We live in a global economy...

What does that even mean?

National autonomy doesn't exist in today's global economy. National and economic interests are often overlapping. Is a steady supply of foreign oil an economic interest or national interest? So when it comes to citizenship and allegiance - what's more important? Economic or national interests?

The globalization of economic activity has caused some to declare that national borders no longer matter and, therefore, the nation-state has become irrelevant. Others argue that globalization has weakened the nation-state and has made it susceptible to the economic interests that control the global economy. Regardless, countries have become increasingly integrated into the global economy over the past two decades; they have also organized themselves into various regional trading blocs. This study contributes to the debate of how globalization and regionalization have affected the sovereignty of the world's nation-states, by investigating the effects of the Central American Common Market (CACM) on the national sovereignty of its member countries.

It's still U.S.-economic and U.S.-national, not some "global" mumbo jumbo.

How does importing foreign oil make the Oath of Allegiance any less relevant?

Beyond our Constitution and what it invokes, I don't know what a good citizen of the U.S. should be allegiant to. The President? The military? Washington? National interests?
