Thanks rebeccajo. I really hope so too. My manager wants me to call her as soon as I'm out as she has people lined up to interview for my job the next day if I get visa.

I'm not even out the door and they lining my replacement up!

On top of the interview stress I'm now really stressed about the weather as if it snows too much I don't know how I'll even get down there from Glasgow.

YAY pancake day, I forgot so thanks for the reminder :) - we will definitely be having pancakes on Tuesday - I'm sure this is a tradition that hubby will be happy to celebrate :D

We always used to have them when I was younger, but not so much in the last few years.

Oooh and now I have a craving for golden syrup.... has anyone found a similar product in the US which will save me a trip to the British store? :)

I saw golden syrup -- the real deal, Lyle's -- at Shaw's supermarket in Hamden, CT on Sunday. I didn't buy any, but I did pick up 2 packs of Jammie Dodgers which were on sale 2 for $4. Oh, and some digestives and some proper Colman's horseradish sauce...

But I digress. You can find it online at any number of places (Amazon being just one), and I found a recipe for a substitute but haven't tried it so I can't vouch for it being any good: http://www.geocities.com/NapaValley/9412/golden_syrup.html

My mate started uni weighing about 11 stone. Three years later, he was 4 stone heavier and he put it all down to eating golden syrup every morning!

yay pancake Day! Just so y'all know, my good old Canadian family always had pancakes on Shrove Tuesday, and lots of local fire department auxiliaries and church halls have pancake suppers that day too! Must be a Commonwealth thing. ;)

thanks for the reminder, rebeccajo, I'm gonna make some myself next Tuesday, yippee!

You got that right sister!

Detroit has some mighty tasty paczkis, I've been told. You can have pancakes any day of year, but eating paczkis is an annual event not to be forgotten!

It's probably for the best it is only one day a year - I want to still be able to fit into the skinny jeans.

Debz, I'd try a local cafe maybe? And good luck!

I lived in the UK for a while, and I remember pancake day. We'd make the Brit kind, but I was quite homesick, and our local ASDA would stock American pancake mix, so we'd load up with several boxes for the year! Cos they were never avail the rest of the time.

I love fluffy American pancakes with nothing on them. And don't get me started on how manky Golden Syrup is! blergh

I'll have a paczki, it'll remind me of my gran... :luv:

But if I wanted to make pancakes for hubster (c'mon, these are really just crepes), what kind of savory type could I make? Hubster grew up doing the Shrove Tuesday thang....I know he lurves the pancakes.

I like them toasted and with a little butter on them. Hubby thinks I'm weird. Oh and I love French Toast without anything on it too.

 French toast plain is da bomb!
